I'm wondering if anyone can offer any suggestions on kitty litter pan scoopers?

We have 6 kitties and until recently both myself and spouse were able to clean the litter pans. However things have changed, my spouse has become almost totally disabled, and I have problems of my own making it impossible to bend down anymore.

I checked around for different scoops, but the only one in the large pet warehouse was just the basic shovel on a long handle. (Note: I live in Ontario and in Canada, the variety of any product is only a fraction of what is available in the US. ) I bought it, but it doesn't help at all. The shovel is too small and it's not constructed on enough on an angle to scoop properly.   It actually made the cleaning process more difficult!

I did some online searching and found on Amazon, a number of different scoops which are "supposedly" made for people who are either disabled or for whatever reason, can't bend down. But from the photos, it's impossible to know what will work, and just because the comments for a certain item may be positive, you can't necessarily trust them. Anyone can post comments and manufacturers often get their own people to post positive comments.

So my question: has anyone got the same issues and if so, have you found a solution?

Thanks in advance!

I'm not familiar with any long handled scoopers; is that what you have in mind?

i was wondering if there is a way you can raise your boxes up so you don't have to bend so far?  I'm not sure how many boxes you have or their locations to know if that would work; but it came to mind.

I have heard of people who put their litterboxes up on a table. Like one of those long plastic buffet tables, something like that. That could work for you unless any of your kitties are too old/disabled to jump up. Although this still means you'd have to lift the boxes up to the table :/. Maybe hire a young person to help out? Some teenager must be willing to scoop kitty boxes for pocket money :D.

Even raising the litter boxes to  chair height - say a long bench, some plastic tubs, or anything that is a similar height to a chair could work?  It would mean you could sit next to the box to scoop.  And if any cats need help getting up, you can create or buy some stairs that make it easier

As regards scoopers, I've never liked 'scoopers'.  I use a kitchen metal egg/steak flip thing.  It has a longer handle, it is easy to clean being metal, and it scoops well (it is also cheap!).  If you wanted an even longer handle, maybe you could look at BBQ implements?  Remember of course that the longer the handle (long lever), the more difficult it becomes to handle with dexterity.

I too found the usual scooper to be ridiculously short. PetSmart sells one with a long handle, a good-sized scoop , it's about $12.00 or so, and I find it to be great. I don't have a problem to bend down but really did not feel like practically having my nose in the litter box.  If you cannot bend down at all, let me suggest to use a long-handled dust pan and punch big holes into the scooping part, that might do it. Picking up the litter box or elevating it is no solution with your health problems, it would be easier to hire some kid for pocket money to scoop the litter pan for you. I mean "kid", like 10 or 12, or even younger, teenagers don't want to do this for the moany you are willing to pay for this service. Bake some cookies and most kids , particularly boys or scouts, would be happy to make a few pennies (dollars?) per month.
