Another cat pee issue...

17-year-old female Siamese keeps peeing in the house. Repeats on same spots on kitchen (linoleum) and dining room (hard wood). She started peeing on a rug, so we threw it away and got a new one. The peeing started again in the same place! We've tried vinegar, extra-strength (pheromone style) Nature's Miracle and the Feliway stuff (spray and diffuser). We are going to have to pitch yet another rug and go without.

The Siamese is stressed out because of one of the other cats (male, stalker). They got along for seven years, and now she acts like a victim around him. Tried giving them "Calm Down" (Whisker City) formula - to no avail.

Took her to the vet. She did have a UTI once, but it has been addressed. She's healthy otherwise.

We put a litter box in a room that she only uses.  All cats also have access to outdoors through cat door.

I'm at the end of my wit. HELP!

You mentioned you took her to the vet.  Was that recent?  Did you have her rechecked after the UTI?  If not it could still be there.

I would guess the pee has gotten into the floor boards under the rug.  That is why she can still smell it.  She will keep going there.  I would try another cleaner and do away with a rug.

You can try some Dr. Elsey's LItter Attract.  It has special herbs that attract cats to the litter box.  Yet, first make sure the UTI is gone and she is healthy.

Thanks for the responses! I know it's been a while... Took China cat (Siamese mix) back to vet and she's fine. I've been using an enzyme cleaner to no avail. We have narrowed it down to one of our male cats bullies her back into the house when she tries to go outside, (there's a cat door... they all go outside). They are constantly fighting - and she plays the "victim" in all of it. He also bullies her sister, but she fights back. We've tried the pheromone diffuser and collars. Male cat was somewhat sedated. It did nothing for her. Same issues prevailed.

So now, she sleeps in the guestroom at night with a litterbox. And during the day? She "asks" to use the box (we keep the other cats out of the room, so the door is closed).

If we have a long day at work? She pees (or poops) in the exact same spot in the livingroom. Rinse, repeat. Good thing that her pee has absolutely NO ODOR. (I credit a grain-free diet with this).

We have a tiny house, so there aren't many other options.

We've been playing with the male cat more to distract him from her. It KINDA works... but only for the moment. So weird... they have lived together for almost ten years and used to be "buddies".

Can anyone suggest any behavior modification ideas? We try and make her feel safe and keep our voices down when she and the boy get into scuffles.

Our vet wasn't too keen on "changing her behavior" when I asked about drugs.

It appears the problem is with the male cat bullying her.  This needs to stop.  How many litter boxes do you have and how many cats do you have?  The golden rule is one box per cat plus one extra box.  Have you used a black light to be sure you are getting all of the places she has peed?

Here is an article on litter box issues as well as two videos.  Yet I think if the bullying would stop, the pee issue would greatly reduce.  She needs to feel safe and she doesn't feel safe.  I also would keep her in the room by herself with the litter box when you are gone.  Why leave her out where she pees everywhere?  Do you know if she is bullied in the house?

Thanks for the videos! I will check them out in a bit.

Yes, we know that he's been bullying her. We barely have floor space in our house for more than one litter box, so she has her own in the guest room.
We put her in there over-night, (or when we're away for longer times) and then she usually chills outside all day. We have four cats, and the rest of them all go outside to use the bathroom. The bullied cat does actually go out, but just seems to be hung up on the peeing issue. Sometimes when she "asks" to use the litter box, I'll put her outside and she'll go. She's kinda like a dog.

The spots she goes are always exactly the same - never anywhere else. Hard wood floor... seems that there's nothing we can do about it. At least the other cats don't try to cover it!

My cat Tanner had a problem with peeing outside of the litterbox. Anything cloth on the ground or on the bed he would pee on. I took him to the vet and they gave me the run around with different medications and tests that ended up costing me hundreds of dollars! I did my research and got a second litter box (I have one closed and one open litter box now) and he has not peed outside of the litter boxes since! He uses the closed litter box for pooping and the open litter box for peeing. If you do not already, I would definitely try two litter boxes.

Also, his litter boxes are right next to each other in the same room. I live in a small apartment so I understand limited space.

Hmmmmm - Cat psychology is so interesting! We'd still have to keep the three other cats out of the box, so the door has to stay closed. :p

I wish she could just TELL me what's up? Lol
