Just saw a kitty named "Sparkles", up for adoption at Pet Smart. Orange and white shy little girl who was rescued from euthanasia. There was something about her picture that just pulled at my heartstrings - and same for Paul. I'm fighting the urge to go see her at PetSmart tomorrow. Help - I really don't "need" a fourth cat, and I know ours would be super jealous. Well, not Tony - he's such a love, but K now I wouldnt sit well with Angel, and probably not Tippy.

You have to be careful about "window shopping" unless you have room for more cats.  Trust me.  :)
You're definitely right - and that's what my practical side tells me. I keep telling myself that somebody will fall in love with that little girl and give her a good home. It probably wouldn't be fair to our 3 - and they'e all getting older now. Anyway - again - that's what my practical side says. Keep me away from PetSmart!!!!

If my DH were not allergic and my life hectic enough; I couldn't allow myself to window shop at all!  The worst was the time my DH saw a little cat at Petsmart that HE liked!  This was before Mooch and Noodles; we were cat-less and I missed having a cat terribly!  Plus her name was Tinsel; which was my first cat ever's name!  She was a little silver tabby; not quite a year old.

My kids do love to visit the cats at Petsmart now (the dogs are just too loud with all the barking).  There is one who has been there for probably 2 years; a big tuxedo guy.  He looks like a doll!

It's those hard luck ones, like the big tuxedo who has been there for two years (????) who will eventually make you throw caution to the wind and make you rescue them.  I no longer window shop at ALL because I truly cannot take in any more cats.  I have closed my rescue for intake and am spending the rest of my life finding homes for those that are left over or caring for those who are forever mine.  I have very few cats here that I chose actively, but I do have one window-shopping cat who was in a kill shelter and had been there for a month because some of the helpers had taken a liking to him and so he was spared the deadline forced on many.  However, in his case that was perhaps sadder.  He was an intact male turned in by his owner who just didn't want him around anymore.  He had been an outside cat, king of the territory, beautiful guy, snowshoe Siamese mix with blue eyes an extra toes on all feet. He was a happy camper if you scratched his back, so he won over the caretakers, but he had a terrible eye infection and could not see, and bad ear mites and ear infection so he could not hear, and being about 3-4 years old and not neutered, he smelled pretty bad too.  He was there for a month, and I kept wondering why he didn't get adopted, so I inquired.  It wasn't long afterwards that I was able to spring him and begin the long process of getting him cleaned up (which destroyed his trust in humans) and then restoring his trust in humans again (no more meds, no more procedures, no more car sick rides to and from the vet).  A friend adopted him and now he's king of the house, good with other cats, good with people -- but still loves to spray despite being neutered for 4 years now, so he does need to go out to water the bushes, but he is supervised.  I do not window shop anymore because I am already well over the county limit for how many animals a person can have on one acre.  As long as my neighbors don't complain, I'm fine.  I will warn anyone who will listen that five cats is about the limit anyone can have without them starting pissing wars with each other, male or female.  I am passing the rescue torch to those who are younger now, remembering with a chuckle when I had only three cats and told a friend, "Oh, I would never keep a cat who sprays."  Ate those words years ago.  Gotta love them all though.

I actually just looked him up online and I can't find him!  He had a buddy; fortunately I remember both of their names.  The buddy is on their website; but no pictures of him.  I hope that means the tuxedo has been adopted finally!!  They are with a no-kill shelter.  One of my mother's cats came because of the connection I had with her when I saw her.  I was married and out of the house; but DH didn't think he could handle having our own with his allergies. So Mom adopted her.  She was drawn to her too.  Well it turned out this kitty has issues with inappropriate peeing.  She was about 2 when they adopted her; so she's about 14 now and still with them!  They just figured out that she prefers to go outside to use the bathroom.  It makes me a bit nervous; but for almost 12 years she has had a good life with them; even with her "issues" that others would have given up on.  Not that it wasn't frustrating; I watched her squat and pee right in front of me too.  But they stuck with her and figured it out!

Oh, I understand!  Mooch is right though, I can't let myself do that either. I used to just pick up the paws magazine we have here locally w/ all the rescue groups & shelters that put cats, dogs, & some bunnies too in them w/ a little description & picture. I want to adopt them all!!   Angel is all I can afford, & I have even had to get a care credit card for him, back in 2012, when he went through a UTI, & 2 episodes of cystitis, plus all the follow ups!  I'll be paying that bill for a while!

So, I just don't pick them up to look at anymore, because it's torture. LOL!

I will stop in & visit w/ the kitties for a few minutes when in one of the pet stores, & give them some attention & love.

I feel so bad when I see one who has special needs, or just looks scared to be there. But if they weren't, they wouldn't be seen to hopefully get adopted. I always say a silent little prayer for them.
