Hi everyone,
I've a cat. Now, she's pregnant about 34 days. This monday she suddenly has brown discharge. I took her to a vet so they told she need a surgery to remove the kitten (the vet thought she's miscarriage). I took her to other clinic and vet said that I need to follow up and give her antibiotics. They said maybe the kittens are dead inside but they want to wait her kitten outside naturally. The vet did x-ray but the kitten only 30 days and their heartbeat haven't seen.

Anw, she's better then, she's eating well. But brown discharge still drop a little. The first clinic advice me to do x-ray for her, today and 5 days later. They'll know if the kitten grow up or not.

But the second clinic said that I should be wait the next Saturday to have x-ray only once. That time her kitten're 40 days old and be sure to have heartbeat. If not, a surgery will be happened.

I'm so so worry. I want to test now but she's very sensitive to everything and I'm afraid the moving is terrible with her and the kittens. But if not, I'm feel not comfortable.

If it has any case that brown discharge longs until 6 days but the kittens're still healthy(firstly, she's hurt, meow a lot, drop brown discharge a little but much time per day, eat a little. Then she's better and better, now she's very love food and curious, but still has a little brown discharge??? Her stomach still getting bigger, I believe the kittens're growing up. But that phenomenon makes I'm worried one of the kittens's not good. I also know only one dead kitten make all of them can't keep more.

I wish and pray her and all of the kitten're very well.

This is difficult, because both the vets say completely different things.

I personally would probably go for the day 40 xray once, because the less you move her, the less stress, the more chance for the kittens and the mom to be okay. It's possible one of the kittens died, but the others might still be alive. But, it's also possible she has some kind of infection, and if that's the case she'll need treatment as soon as possible. This is where the hard part comes in. If you wait till day 40, she has to wait for her treatment if it ends up being an infection. This can end up fatal. Both vets didn't mention anything about an infection tho, so that's what I based my own opinion on when I said I would go for the day 40 xray. She doesn't seem to have any fever, which is comon with an infection.

I don't feel very comfortable advising you what to do, because I am not sure myself. I hope someone else can add to this.

I too, Im sending *vibes!*  @PC Nguyen

You had done what many cant, you have consulted two different vets.   Good!

if we dont have a clear cut answer, we always recommend to go to a vet in cases like this.

The problem is, some dont have the money, and some others dont have any vet nearby.   And so, they must manage with what they have at home.  Or at best, go to the cheapest vet they can find..

Aborting and spay is the thing to do, if you want to be sure the mom will be saved.   The operation isnt easy, more difficult than a common spaying,  but a good vet surgeon can do it, no problem.

But if you want to try and save the kittens, you wait with the decision.  The kittens are in different sacs, so even if one is gone/dies, the others may survive with a little luck, and be delivered in their time.   So the decision is difficult, and I hope you do have a good vet.   You must also look up with sings of serious infection - pus, raised temperature.

This vet, He / she is at least willing to come home to you.  Most vets dont do this.

Good luck!

Hi everyone, I have update :)

Last afternoon I took my cat to a vet hospital (the second clinic I told). 2 clinics are supposed are the best clinics in my city, they give me different advice!?

Firstly, when the mother cat has a few red blood and a little green discharge, he vet said that the surgery maybe be happen, it sure she had infection (I feel terribly although my mind was preparing during one week).

Then, the vet did x-ray and said that she's no pregnant. It means the kittens was disappear.I don't know how to say about it, he kitten's too small to be disappear from the mother's belly.

She don't need to do anything except for back home and have restness, good food and wait to back her best status :)

It is possible, they can be re-absorbed in her. "she herself eates up them inside" so to speak.   It happens now and then.

So good surgery isnt necessary.  (a common spaying later on should be done, when she is entirely healthy again). But the suregery is easier on a healthy cat, then on a sick cat with an infection.   So she didnt need even antibiotica?

The "only" left is for her to be healthy from this infection / troubles.     But proceed to be observant till you are entirely sure she is OK.

Tx for the report!

Good luck!

a part of a kitten's in proceed, so a few blood is normal. The vet said that if everything's normal, she's going to be well very soon.

And dear StefanZ, she's using antibiotics from last time. The vet also said the kittens under 30 days old can be disappear ( I also want to ask more but it's a little difficult to talk because he said in Thai).

anw, I think it's the best way for her in this condition. She's not dangerous and no kitten outside of her body.
