My cat started to scratch behind her right ear 8 months ago. When it started I took her to the vet, no ear mites, no redness, no wounds, just more itching than normal. Now, 8 months later I realize that the fur is very thin on her right ear.
She seems to scratch (2-3 strokes, 2-3 times a day) when she is very energetic or when she is frustrated. I thought it might have to do with stress (due to the fact that I´ve been quite stressed these months, due to work) and perhaps it might help with pheromones (plug-in). The scratching has decreased when I´ve worked to reduce stress for me and her, but she still has a big part of her ear that has no or very thin fur.....
I feed her raw food, no fish or fish oil, no additives (besides what it is needed to make it balanced), and her fur is thick and amazing, sparkling. I´ve changed her food during these months, because I thought she was allergic to fish. It is much better, but not good. She started her scratching shortly after being on a cat-hotel for almost 2 weeks- and that makes me think that perhaps is has to do with stress. Stress of me leaving? I´ve tried to play more, more walks on a leash, raw bones to gnaw on for several hours, pheromones, a bird feeder outside the window, dog toys where you hide the treat and she has to figure out how to get it. I´ve even tried to get her a "friend"- but they did not get along at all....
She is 20 months old, her mom is siamese, so she has that energy and curiosity.
Anyone with any ideas what to do?
