YES, on both statements above!! Tell your story from your heart as best you can in the badge thread. AND - yes - to getting prepared by having a trap. I am SO glad you have a good feral cat group willing to help you! Thank you so much for your efforts. :hugs:
also tell i got them fixed. The problem with trapping is that i would have to bring him in that day and i don't know if my mom will be willing that day

Edit just email them and asked for a trap

CONGRATS !!!!!!!!!!!! I see your badge now !!!!:clap:

I am in a bit of a rush at the moment BUT will tell you there is a way to keep a cat in a trap for a day safely until the vet appt. OR an easier solution is to tie the trap door up and feed inside the trap so the cat gets used to going in and out of the trap. Hopefully the cat will begin to come around on a regular basis, on a schedule such as for the AM morning. Then, on the day when your mom can drive the cat to the vet, you untie the trap door, set the trap and in goes the cat..... hopefully :cross:. The main thing is to try to get the cat on a schedule IF the cat is coming around on a regular basis. This can be tricky because sometimes a feral cat will not show itself on a regular basis making trapping more difficult.

We are glad that you are trying so hard to help any feral/stray cat. It is so important what you are willing to do to help!!! Having a trap on hand is always a very, very good idea especially since you have other outside, neutered cats that you are feeding and caring for. It is inevitable that more cats will be attracted to your yard because you are a regular feeding resource for your own outdoor cats.

Absolutely. Most times feral cats are trapped/captured during the nighttime hours, especially if they are not coming during the day at the scheduled feedings. You can set up the trap at night but the only issue is that you may capture one of your other outdoor cats or even a raccoon! This is always the challenge that many of us have when it comes to trapping feral cats. It always makes it much easier when the feral cat is coming around daily for the scheduled feeding time. I usually set up a couple of traps, tie up the doors and feed only inside the trap for a couple of days or so. IF I see the feral cat sitting outside somewhere, then I bring out some canned food and place it on a paper plate way in the back of the unset trap. Hopefully, the feral cat will be hungry enough to go into the trap to eat. I am teaching the feral cat to sit in an area where I can see him/her from inside my house, and believe me, they are smart and know if they are seen, the caretaker will bring out food. This is how I encourage them into staying around my property and once they are more trusting of me coming and going, then I begin the scheduled feedings only to make it easy for me with the trapping and the vet appt.

It really is not as complicated as it sounds and most feral cats will begin to stick around their main feeding source all the time thus making capture quite easy. The tricky part is when you already have a TNRd colony and end up trapping a cat not needing neutering. Just keep trying though and you will succeed. :bigthumb:

Last night he was on the dumpster licking a paper plate, I thought it was gray, I got a foot away from him before I realize it was him and he looked up and panicked and ran. He was pretty focus on licking that plate, he must been hungry or he really likes whatever was on that plate

I have used the crate method to capture quite a few feral cats but it does take much more patience and time as opposed to the Hav-a-Hart. With this method you need to really get a feeding schedule down with the feral cat and get him to trust you enough to eat inside the crate with you about 20 feet away. You should only feed inside the crate each and every feeding so the cat goes unsuspecting and willingly into the crate to eat while you are in the area. I usually keep a crate outside with the door propped open and begin feeding the feral cat regularly inside that crate. Once you have accomplished this then you can tie the rope to the inside of the door, run it through the slats on the side of the crate air holes. On trap day, I usually only put a very small amount of food (sardines) in the crate on a paper plate because the cat will thrash about and be extremely frightened and fierce while you are pulling the crate to you via the rope. Have a gloved hand to latch the door securely closed, then untie the rope and pull it out. Cover the crate with a large towel and off to the vet you go. Sometimes the vets want the cat inside of a trap though because they have a tool to block the cat tightly to one side of the crate to give it an injection to tranquilize. It is possible to transfer the cat to a trap from the crate but there is a method to that too so the cat doesn't escape during transfer.

I think it is great and very compassionate that you are making efforts to help feral cats and ultimately saving lives. A life for a feral kitten and cat is not a good one. So thanks for trying because I am sure this male cat is breeding and making babies somewhere out there. :sigh:

Would this work? This is where I feed them and I am able to peek out the window without scaring him so I can close the door from the window.

I been feeding them earlier but he don't shows up until it late and dark out but he did show up once in the middle of the day

Yes - that type of cage/crate should work too. Maybe cover it with a tarp of some sort, at least the back half. That will make it more secure for the cat to want to go inside to eat. This will be a great set up with you watching above from the window but the real issue now is to get that feral cat up on your deck and eating meals on that deck. :cross: Befriending him and gaining his trust even one ounce at a time is the way to do it. AND LOTS OF YUMMY FOOD. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Oh wow!!! This is excellent news to hear that this cat is already eating on the deck!!! :high5: Really great progress!! Really the size of the kennel doesn't matter too much and actually that wire cage you showed above in the picture is just fine because then you can take him to the vet in that cage and they may be able to tranq him easier inside of that cage. A larger kennel may be difficult for them to get him out safely to tranq him. I usually just use a cat carrier - plastic carrier. I also am able to transfer the feral cat from the carrier to a trap IF the feral cat is extremely fierce so the vet can easily tranq the cat. Some turn out to be friendlies though! You never know.

He will come back, not to worry, because he knows you now and little by little beginning to trust you. Trapping them is scary for US and for HIM - but it won't destroy all of the progress you have made. Since you will be the one picking him up from the vet after his surgery, bringing him home to his safe place and territory, you will be only making your bond stronger!! Most important is to get the feral cats all spayed and neutered, it is the means to an end goal. :bigthumb:

He haven't show up last night too. I think there a pattern, he shows up for few days then disappear for how long? Last time he was gone or I haven't see him for two weeks Then show few days

I only know at least three or four but they don't show up unless mama cat was in heat

Are there any ways to trick them into thinking there a female in heat nearby?
