I havent saw a raccoon around here before and when my dad was feeding the dog. There were always food out for them before i took over. My only worry is coyotes and foxes. There are someone who breeds wolves and dogs just mile away
Yikes. I definitely would not leave out food after the mid-afternoon feeding. Feed in the AM and late afternoon, well before dusk. The cats WILL learn to eat up the food once you start this schedule. I never want to attract any type of wildlife - raccoons included - to my property where I want to keep my feral cats safe. Feral cats are very, very savvy and have a high self-preservation drive and do know how to keep themselves safe. Still - do what you can to keep the wildlife from even wanting to come to your property by not leaving food out after dusk.

Oh I see BUT after dark then I would think you would have many more species coming around looking for food and to hunt!! Even more reason, since living in the country, to keep food away after dark!! ;)

Thank you for helping. I live in the country as well many other animals do come out here after dark. We just don't see them most of the time. But they come and attack the cats over the food. So to don't feed after dark.

Good luck and let us know if you see her again.

I worry about wildlife. Those huge raccoons come in and bully the cats away and eat everything! If you leave the food out at night the raccoons get used to coming, just like the cats. My ferals come at 5 in the morning and I spend a great deal of time chasing raccoons! All the luck, and bless you for caring!
I I know how you feel. I live in brooklyn, NY, and last summer there was a case of a raccoon in Bayridge who had rabies and bit a woman in a parking lot! It was terrifying to think about rabies. There are raccoons and possums that patrol my neighborhood from time to time. In the winter there appearances are not often but in the summer, they all come out. The raccoons even travel in large groups and they fight with the cats :( I hear them sometimes. Last summer there was a group of 5 raccoons visiting my backyard. At that time my two ferals were living in the backyard so I had to go out. I know it was dangerous and risky but I couldn't leave the cats out there. I threw water at them and scared them with a stick to chase them away. I hear them in the winter too but not as much. I don't leave any food out once it gets dark either.

All I can say is thank you for taking care of them and I hope they don't come back.  Hopefully you were able to get some rest but if you're anything like me you were up half the night at every little sound checking on them. Lol you are doing great keep it up.

You are doing such a fabulous job caring for your cats. They are lucky to have you (and your dad) watching out for them.

YES - absolutely!! You should have a badge and here is the thread to apply for it!! Just post a reply in the following thread and tell a little about how you have helped feral cats, care for them and get them all neutered too. :bigthumb:

Well, you do have the other cats that you care for now too, right? The ones you got all neutered. They count too. :bigthumb:

I hope tying up the dog is a temporary thing. I love cats but I like dogs too, and they should not be perma tied! Great Pyrenees are beautiful dogs...

I hope things are going well with your kitties now also!

it is until we teach him boundaries, and teach him to leave the cats alone

M mwallace056 hey, how are the cats doing? Have the coyotes left?

I'm sure you treat the dogs just as well as the cats. Thank you for your great work and helping out our animal companions :)
