Cat meet Rat

Our cats for the most part are actually afraid of our rats and jump down if they get up on the couch and we're holding a rat. But I captured a cute picture of Sonny with one of our female rats Marseilles. They were checking each other out. And neither got upset or freaked out, but I didn't have them together too long. Never sure if the rat will get scared and defensive and strike out or the cat will bat at the rat, so we keep them separated for the most part.

Yes, definitely a good idea to keep both species separate as much as possible and closely supervise when you have the rat out of the tank/cage.

Rats make fantastic pets. I kept them for years. They are like little dogs. I had my first rat wiffle, who got along quite well with my cat fluffy. Guess i was lucky. I also kept frogs, and she never went for them either. Infact, she used to growl if a stranger went near their tank.

  Sorry, you guys lost me on this one.  You know, the agree to disagree.  Oh Well.

Aww, yeah, rats are awesome pets. I had one when I was a teenager. They're like little dogs, so engaging and smart.

I think it's funny that a lot of people who say they don't like pet rats say they like hamsters. . .what's the difference? :lol3:

What about black rats mazie? Don't know. Look much the same. Can't get pet hamsters in australia to my knowlege. I think all rodents are cute. I had a rat called willow, willowy.
