This is a stray, which we cannot afford vet treatment for.  We are 7 days into our own treatment.

So far, we have:  removed dead skin;  noticed no muscular damage;  twice daily water flushings;  application of Wonder Dust for past 2 1/2 days.

Cat eats well, and no signs of infection or fever.  So, what's the next step?  Is there a miracle product to promote healing and skin growth?

Are you keeping kitty indoors?  That would be the best thing, I think, for preventing infection and promoting healing.  If you're sure kitty doesn't need stitches, a product I really like is Vetericyn.  It comes in a liquid for flushing and hydrogel that you apply like a salve.  I keep both on hand as part of my kitty first aid kit.

If kitty isn't fixed, that's something else that really should happen to help prevent future injuries.  You can contact your local humane society for info on low-cost clinics or organizations that might be able to help.

You can always call a vet and ask for an over the counter antibiotic, explaining it is a feral and not your cat. You could ask for wound care advise too, and stress it is a cat that is not able to be brought in.  I do this often if my feral shows up with an abscess or an upper respiratory infection. Just put a dropper full on the food, they eat it right up. It sounds like you are doing everything right, it's just a waiting game now. If it gets abscessed you really need an antibiotic but that takes up to weeks to show up. All the luck!

We are keeping "barn cat" indoors and have regularly been using veticyn.  Thx for backing up our treatment so far.  She has been neutered.

Great suggestions Di and Bob.  No abcess yet.  Calling a vet right now.
