We found this kitten awhile back and she wasn't pregnant but then about 3 months later she was and we took her to the vet and everything and the vet said she would be due in a week. Well its been two weeks since then. She's been having this pinkish discharge for about 3 days and yesterday when I come home there was a lot more than normal. All the kittens are very active right now and she wants me to be around more. I just don't know what this means. Can anyone help?

Be around her if she so wants, Rub her tummy if she allows.  It helps.  Some pinkish discharges are normal, but a lot is less common...

If you feel unsecure, it may be wise to phone this your vet, and ask.  The vet will know what follow up questions to give.  And you being his paying patient, you do have the right to phone and ask in the errand you were in for.

As an overall rule of thumb, cats manage a little too long pregnancy better than humans.  While a too early delivery is dangerous, kittens dont manage being premature, much worse than human babies.  So while a cesaran is an useful trick with humans,  its no clear cut with cats.  The mom will be saved, all right, but the kittens may be de facto killed if  the cesarean were too early.

Here, as the kitten are very active, they had probably not dropped yet, the delivry is not immediately near.

If the mom is ok, no visible problems, the usual advice by us, and our forumists vets, is to be watchful, but wait and see.  - But if she is having lotsa discharge - I dont know, and thus I recommend you to  phone and ask.

Do you have any way to measure her temp?  You can measure in the armpit of her foreleg if you wish.  It will be about one full Celsius grade, or 3 Fahrenheit grade, lower there than in the behind.   A healthy cat has usually 38,5 Celsius or about 101 F, and often slightly less immediately before delivery.   More than this hints a raised temp = an infection perhaps.

I will send some of our links.

You are of course welcome with reports and further questions.

Good luck!

What is the temperature suppose to be for a cat that's about to give birth?

Its usually somewhat lower than their normal temp.  The normal, measuing in the behind, is about 38,5 in Celsius, and 101-102 Fahrenheit.

Measured in the armpit of foreleg, its about 37,5, respectively  98-99 Fahrenheit (ie a difference of about 3 grades).

Measured in the ear it should be lower, but I dont exactly how much.  It is also possible these modern thermometres are compensating.

The usual drop shortly before the delivery, is roughly the same, ie about 1 full Celsius or 3 Fahrenheit.

It could be right so to speak.   The safest is to have a serie of measurements,  so you know what is her normal temp measuring in the armpit, and when it has dropped.

Also, the normal temp as such may vary somewhat between cat individuals.

97,7 F in armpit is roughly 101 in Fahrenheit.   My guess is the temp drop has not began yet.

But if so, she is neither running a fever.

My cat is having all the signs of starting labor, but she hasn't lost her mucus plug yet. Is this normal for a cat.

You don't always find the "mucus plug", so yes, it's normal :) She probably already lost it without you noticing!

Healthy kittens do manage a while for themselves, as long as they are nice and warm.  So as MrWallace said, you can try first they get from their mom.

Its seldom the mom doesnt has any milk. But there may be several reasons the milk coming in later or mom dont want to nurse, for example if she has more kittens to deliver,

But if you are unsure, dont wait too long.  Do have the gears ready, also kmr or goat milk.

Is it an emergency, the situation in this moment, or you ask to know what if?

Its like MWallace says.

I dont know what your wrote earlier, it depends on when they mated, or if you dont know, when her nipples got read.

When you began to feel the kittens move.  Do they move as much today, or less??

But esseintally, as soon you know its beginning to near - its just to wait...  Being watchful no real problems comes.

Did you got our links?

Good luck!

Here are our usual links, anyway.

Please come with further questions and reports - and answers to our responses..

Use preferably  same tread, if it is the same errand.  Easier to follow them.    :)

Good luck!

hey, I have no idea when my cat is going to give birth she isnt laying in her nesting spot anymore. She isnt eating as much anymore. The kittens are very active, and she keeps walking around the house meowing. i just don't know what to do. I still don't know if  she has lost her mucus plug or not she is still having discharge, but yesterday we saw here licking up the discharge so what does that mean? This is the first time that i have ever had a cat to give birth.!
