I purchased a kitten from a breeder in Baltimore,md. I checked out her name, cattery name before purchase. went to her home saw the kittens they all looked healthy and active. Purchased  the kitten. The kitten began having diarrhea as soon as we got her home, I called the vet on the vet cert she gave me with the kitten and soon found out it was a forgery! took the kitten to my vet had her fully examined and tests done over the next week and found out she had giardia, ringworm and bacteria in her ears, treated those things  but the diarrhea never went away! Finally after much research my vet checked for Tritrichomonas foetus and the kitten was positive so I treated her for TF.I contacted the breeder by email, no response! called the phone number she gave left messages no response, went to the address where I bought the cat they said she moved out! so after a little investigating the address where the kitten was sold from I found numerous complaints about this woman selling kittens  at this address using fake names and vet health certs since 2010. I was able to find out her real name and she continues to this day to sell kittens she never moved from this address her family is all a part of the scam/fraud, she now meets in a parking lot to do sale citing safety concerns, sends a third party to do the sale claiming she has to work overtime or has a family emergency, gives a fake name, uses an untraceable cell phone she now, sells the kittens without cfa papers( I believe numerous complaints to CFA caused  her problems) and she knows they are infected with ringworm and tritrichomonas foetus! these unscrupulous breeders use ebay classifieds, hoobly and various other websites to sell their kittens.

If you have proof then contact the police where you live, or the SPCA. This us both fraud and animal neglect.

Also, some sort of notification to her association...  Im not sure it the association will do much, but if more than one has similiar complaints, they will surely react.

An overall comment.  Its not unusual seemingly healthy kittens get sick in the new home. It is the stress of leaving her home, moving, and trying to adapt to new home, which makes a dormant, sleeping, infection to burst open.

It is part of the reason why good breeders try to have an Breeder insurance.  So if something happens, you dont need to be sour on each other.  You just go to your own vet, and get all costs of vet, medicines, etc, covered.   This is the common in Sweden, i presume its common in USA too.

Good luck!

the police said it's a civil matter for me to sue her in civil court and my vet reported them to animal control, but  the occupants of the house never opened the door and when they finally did they said the woman selling the kittens moved! Which is a lie of course! So i'll be going to court for damages, but i'll never get a dime only a judgment against her to go with all the other liens she has from other buyers!

Where did you originally find this "breeder", anyway? If on the Internet look up reporting them to the governments internet fraud unit. Worth a try. I might try your state attorney General office too. So sorry this happened to you, but I wouldn't take the polices word that no criminal charges can be brought.

I've been in traffic accidents where the police tried to convince me there was no point pressing charges, in spite of my injuries, because the other driver wouldn't get prosecuted. I think they're just trying to avoid paperwork.

Could you find the other people who bought kittens from her? Maybe you'd have more luck working together.

So sorry this happened to you, what a terrible experience.

How is your kitten now?
