Hi everyone,

My cat is 13 years old and has always been a great wee thing. Over the past year she has changed and I have noticed even more now that she is different.

She doesn't use a litter box, just goes outside. She did the toilet in the livingroom twice a couple of weeks ago. She wants in and out constantly. She will come in the back door and have a few biscuits then go out the front then ten mins later comes in again and back to her biscuits. She just doesn't seem herself, but nothing wrong at the same time.  She is quite happy. She is just like a yo yo. It seems she doesn't remember what she has just done.

It is so draining though, I have to get up at least twice in the night, I then have to wait on her eating as I know she will just go back out in the next half hour. I love her so much but she is driving me mad lol.

I wasn't sure whether to go to vet as she has no symptoms of physical illness. Is it just old age? Do cats get dementia? She is still very friendly and loving. I just worry that she is confused.

Thanks for any advice

xx

I would think a vet check up is in order.  When was the last time she was to the vet?  Cats are very good at hiding illnesses.  I would make an appointment.

Hi thanks for your reply.

She was at the vet in December. I mentioned then that she was in and out all the time, but they never said anything at all really.

I know a lot of cats might go in and out a lot but she didn't so thought it odd. It is getting more and more frequent.

Another thing is that, all her life all she has ever eaten in cat bisc. She turns her nose up at everything else. She recently ate a chunk of corn beef on the worktop, she was drinking oil from the pan, soup, etc etc. She just seems so different.

I will make an apt tmrw. I just wasn't sure if I was being a drama queen or not lol. xx

Going to the vet is a good start.  Cats can get dementia/Alzheimer's as they get older, just like humans.  There has been more studies done on it recently.
