I just got a refill of mirtazapine transdermal for my old kitty. I was surprised to see the .375 mg dose is now every 48 hours rather than 72. I remember reading something about this 'new' approach and curious if any cat parents here know about this. I have a call in to my Vet.

Thanks

Hi,

Yes when my old boy was on Mirtazapine he was receiving it every 48 hrs. At the time he was on it I looked it up and noticed lots of comments about every 72 hrs but some of the newer info I found mentioned every 48. My old boy did fine on it, it actually perked him up a bit.

I hope your kitty gets better soon!

that's interesting.  We just got it in transdermal form, and our Callie's prescription is for .1 ML every 3 days.  I wonder what the difference is between ML's and MG's, since you are to give .375 and we are to give .1?  That seems like quite a difference.  All I know is that our girl did terrible on the pills (vomited), and so far has done wonderful on the gel, including eating well

I guess the use of the word 'transdermal' was confusing. The .375 number is the actual amount of mirtazine contained in each .1 ml dose. My syringe says 37.5mg/1ml and contains 10 doses.

The Vet said that 48 hours is the 'new' thinking about this mystery drug. As long as she is eating, I'm happy.
