So my cat is about a year old now, and he is neutered and everything. Well not too long he has had a random, seems to be stray cat, visit him by the glass sliding door in my apartment. It comes by the door to chill with my cat everyday and very frequently too. Now it has kind of grown on me and I am debating on whether or not i should take it in or not. I am looking for some more information on outdoor cats, it has it's ear clipped so I am assuming it has the basic shots and is either spayed or neutered. The real question is how do I go about possibly taking in a stray?

Here is a picture of my cat and his outdoor buddy.

Make sure he is a stray first. Looks a bit too chubby to me. Mine has always collected neighbourhood friends and gets himself utterly besotted. I am very close to getting a second cat for him...

Yes, you really do need to make sure he isn't a neighbour's cat making the rounds.  Knock on a few doors and ask. You could also try putting up a few posters.. 'is this your cat?' and a picture, if you feel like doing that.  If no-one claims him/her you could take him to the vet and see if he's microchipped.  He does look well fed.

I agree, as first step check out if Friend has already an owner, prob one of your neigbours.

If not, we shall help you.   Also, you can surely find some tips in the story of Diggerled and his new cat Marlow.

I got to think on them when I saw your pic.

Use the search function, Diggerled has several treads about Marlow and his resident Sasha.

Begin by the tread with  Marlow and Sasha in the title.   (sorry, my link paste didnt worked).

Yea I live in a pretty big apartment complex, so finding if someones own him may be quite the task. How would i go about capturing him, so I can take him to the vet and get him checked out?

I apologize if someone already noted this, but the post said "it has it's ear clipped so I am assuming it has the basic shots and is either spayed or neutered."

Do you mean an ear tip is notched? Does that not mean it is part of a feral colony and has been trapped and neutered? Maybe there is one around where he feeds?

I guess that doesn't mean he hasn't since been adopted though!

I guess that doesn't mean he hasn't been adopted as well though!

Yes, he could have been adopted, although TNRed at some time.

Or he could even be owned from the beginning, but neutered at a low cost TNR-clinic. with just symbolic payment.   In such cases, they often clip off the tip, even if they suspect the cat is really owned.

So, its true, the clipped of ear is an indicium, but its no proof.  The only you can say, he/she is already castrathet, so you dont need to think about it, IF an adoption will come.

If you can't get him into a regular carrier, I would buy or borrow a humane trap and trap him.  He can be taken to the vet in the trap.  A lot depends on his temperment and personaility.  He doesn't seem feral, although the clipped ear might indicate he is part of a TNR project.  But the ear may have been ripped in a fight, so the only way to determine if he's fixed is to get him to the vet.  Plus, you'll want to get him his shots.

Post a few flyers and see if anyone claims him.  In the meantime, do what you can for him.  If you bring him inside, keep him separated from you cat until he gets the all-clear from the vet.
