Here is a picture of 4 bags I am making! It's actually a little darker purple but there was a spot light shining right next to it. Carmella is in the background modeling!

Thanks! Here's #2! 2 down, 2 more to go! I need to hurry and finish my daughter's who is in Arizona so I can get that out to her. She's next! That one is going to be a holiday bag and it has an angel on the front. I'll be glad when I'm done. Everything is sewn by hand except for the handles and I'm getting a bit tired of it!

Thanks Shell! They're very easy and great to use as a gift bag. I will be using one for my daughter Rachel to put a scented candle in and the one for Emily a book.

For the appliques I just went to my bestest graphics program (PrintMaster) and looked for black and white sillouettes of the shapes I wanted. I printed them out and used them for patterns.

Those are really cute!! Coming from someone who sews, I can see that you are putting a lot of work in these. I'm impressed by the stitching around the bag edges - isn't that called blanket stitching?

Yes, that is a blanket stitch! Very nice for edging something like a bag.... or a blanket!
The bag I'm doing for daughter Rachel, I'm going to make the stitch a little bigger. Just for fun!

They are really cute. And I was just at the local Chapters store (like Barnes and Noble), and what do they have on the gift tables by the checkout? Gift bags just like those, with applique Santa on them. I just looked at one and thought, woo, I wouldn't need to buy one here, I know someone who makes them!

Those look great mzjazz. I think one with the "black cat tournement" picture would be cool.

Peace,
Brandon

Were they really?? Wow! How big were they?

I have to be careful here that this thread doesn't turn into an advertisement. I'm not looking to sell them... just showing off what I'm doing!
But I'm curious about Barnes and Noble!

They were smaller than these you have just make. Probably about the size to fit a hardcover book. And stupid me, I didn't even look at the price. I am going back, I'll check that out. And really, they looked remarkably similar to yours! The only difference was that the applique was several different colours (you know, santa with a pink face, white fur, black boots).
