I have the icon but have not done anything to reserve it. Does anyone have anymore information on Windows 10. I am using Windows 7. We have another laptop and desk computer that had 8.1. We both hate it. The man we bought the laptop from recently did some kind of change to it, which makes everything look like Windows 7. He told us he would do the other desk computer without charge and we are thinking of doing that. If the new Windows 10 even resembles Windows 8, they can keep their free copy. I just want to make sure mine does not get automatically changed.

I got an email from Kaspersky (our virus/internet protection) last night. They are working on a Windows 10 update for their security software and we should be able to download it when we upgrade to 10. I really like Kaspersky.

I can't see anything wrong with Windows XP, those newer versions seem to have way too much wrong for my liking.

One big issue is that those newer versions waste screen space horribly and with not so great eyesight and small monitor with low resolution it just does not work.

I'm still using classic look in Windows XP, like how things did look and work on Windows 98, I prefer things working quick and that I have all options laid out in front of me, which is opposite of modern style, where prettiness is more important than quick response (animation etc.) also since Vista they have been trying to hide all options so I spend wasting my time opening new and new doors instead of getting everything from table.

It is maybe problem in my end, but I do prefer this win 98 look best, in Windows 10 things are still working like in Vista, motor is better perhaps, but all the hiding and needless complication in name of making things easy is just plain wrong, imo.

Like some bicycle computers that come with only single button, far more complicated to use than when there is more buttons as it is easy to remember position of button, but it is difficult to remember do I need to press long time or do I need to first be in certain mode etc.

For my brain, this modern 'easy' is far more difficult than old style and thus I probably never install new version of Windows, I rather stop using computer all together, it is that much of issue in my brain :D

Or maybe problem is that we who were building computers and repairing them already before Windows came about, are not target users of Microsoft at all.

Tried to upgrade last night, but they said I'm due right around the beginning of August. They said they'd notify me. So I guess I'll wait til they tell me it's OK. I could go right to the site and grab it that way, but I'll wait a while and see what happens. A couple of my friends upgraded yesterday and they said it was a piece of cake. And, so far anyway, they really like it!

JTbo, I loved XP, too. A lot of people did....and still do.

Windows 10 Warning.......it is NOT compatible with Itunes! If you're using Itunes, don't upgrade your computer. You won't be able to run Itunes on it. At least, that's the latest thing I've heard. And from what I read, that's correct. If anybody knows anything different, please let me know.

I got an email saying that updates were going to be done in stages and I would get it within a few days to a few weeks. It said because of the number of updates they were staggering it so things would go smoothly for everyone.

I upgraded yesterday from win7 to win10.. and I'm hating it.

The only issue I had with win7 was that the local disk got full without programs being installed. Just some huge files, that I dreaded deleting..

Now my pc is running perfectly BUT the OS actually sucks...

The interface is like it's being "under construction"

What's with the social media links on my Start Menu? I can access them from the browser! I want to open a program and I end up looking for it for a total of minutes (feels like hours, though) until I actually see it.

pfffft.. I hope they get improved..

I haven't got my notice yet so I haven't upgraded..  I have 8.1 though so hopefully it will be an improvement over what I have now.  I much preferred Windows 7 to what I have now.

I'm holding off on Win 10 until I can find a way to prevent Windows from tracking my usage behavior. Facebook, Google, et al. already does it, I don't need to add Microsoft to the list.

I still have 7. I have no desire whatsoever to "upgrade" to 10.   Microsoft should come out with to OSs - one for people who like to play around and one for people who use it for business.

It's finished and so far it seems a lot like Windows 7 which is a big improvement over Windows 8.1.

How does it look like Win7? I found so many major differences with Win7. The graphics seem like a century old.. I hate the "this PC" icon.. I changed this and the Recycle Bin's icons with others I downloaded from the internet:

Pc icon   Recycle Bin icon   At least they are more fun to look at.

The task bar does not have the ability to be totally transparent, which I liked when I had win7

The start menu is full of useless (to my preference) utilities.. I need Indiana Jones to find me a program/application to work on, when I need to.. At least they are in Alphabetical Order..

The good think though, is that my PC runs perfectly. The local disk is not inexplicably full any more.. Which beats all the other features I can learn to live with, I guess..

I am a very casual user with my laptop, I have a separate setup for work that hooks up directly with the company server.  I just got really sick of that screen that mimics a MAC.  I would get on the wrong place with my cursor and it would bring up the sidebar for the lookalike screen and sometimes it would take me to that silly screen.  This comes up on the desktop and stays there.  I did look at their Edge Browser and wasn't impressed with it.  I use Chrome anyway so that doesn't matter.  I switched my default to Chrome and noticed that they do still have the old Explorer available if anyone still uses that.

I went from XP to Windows 8 when I bought a new PC 2 years ago. Then to 8.1.   My Windows 10 installed 2 or 3 weeks ago and it's really no different than Windows 8.1 as far as I can see.

Only thing I've noticed is the program that transfers pictures from my camera to PC doesn't start up automatically anymore. I have to prompt it.  But other than that, everything is fine.   I don't use I-Tunes, btw.

@Denice  I checked out the Edge as well.. Yeh, wasn't impressed either.. Actually it's like a newer version of the I.E., so.. I couldn't care less. I use Chrome too.

About that screen that mimics MAC..? I literally have no idea about it.. I kind of lost you there.. Maybe you were using some other version of win7? I used win7 Home.. which is now of course upgraded to win10 Home..

Maybe you can set it to transfer them automatically instead of Windows prompting you? I did something similar yesterday. I actually want the system to ask me before it does any action, when I connect a device.. I reckon you can change this in Settings, like I did..

I also agree that win10 is so much like win8.1
