need advice.

I have been having issues with my cat for about four years. He will be 11 in April.

He has always been a puker, so I switched him to grain free a couple years thinking either ibd or just a sensitive belly. During this time, a couple times he threw up he actually passed out. Nit a seizure, passed out. A lot of tests, emergency visits, nothing came up abnormal. They suspected just syncope.

A couple times throughout the years, he stopped eating for one or two days, then would bounce back and be fine.

Last April, he was diagnosed with a heart condition, he has a slightly enlarged heart and one of his kidneys was deformed.   He has been on atenolol  for about a year, doing good on that.

He also wakes ¼ Pepcid twice a day for his stomach issues.

In December, he stopped eating all together, was puking, letahargic.

H went to the vet and they initially thought it was his kidneys. He stayed there all weekend on iv

When we   got home, he ate one day then stopped again, Went back a week later for blood, and his levels were normal. So we had to get an ultrasound.

He had gallbladder sludge, showed his kidney (which I knew), Mild ileocolic lymphadenopathy,   and Scant peritoneal fluid.

He went on meds for the infection(sludge) which is now gone.

The one   vet suggested an endoscopy but I wasn’t sure with his heart. When I went to his main vet(who wasn’t there that day) he said he wouldn’t  do it because it will not show 100% of what it is.

He suspects either the start of cancer or IBD which have similar signs. HE   does have extremely smelly poop and its loose a lot plus his vomiting issues which he hasn’t had in a while except hair balls.

He is on 1mg of predisone a day plus the heart and Pepcid.

He has been ok until this week. He stopped wanting his rotation of food and will only eat one flavor. I know that his diet should be strict with the IBD buy my main concern was him eating.

I had fancy feast with gravy for a couple weeks, not the best but he ate and he was his go to food when he was sick because he would eat that but now he smells it and walks away. I have been trying to get him off anyway but I need him to eat.

So is this a case of I am being picky or I don’t feel good. Let be clear, he is eating. But he is a eater, steals my other cats food, begs for more.   Now he is just eating the one flavor and not begging as much.

I hesitate to take him to the vet just yet as I said he is eating the one food.   Do I ask the vet if the one pill a day  is enough(lowest dosage per heart)

Do I just give him the one food or will he get sick of it? I keep wasting money on trying different food and its very frustrating. One day he eats it, next he doesn’t.

I also am tired of stressing him out at the vet. He used to be fine now he gets upset because he has been there so much

Has anyone been in this sitation?

Any feeding suggestions? This is so heartbreaking and frustrating

With the acne, my cat's cleared up when I changed from ceramic dishes to stainless steel, which get washed properly at least once a day. Ceramic can get scratches and chips which gives bacteria a place to grow in.

I don't know about the pills he's on as I haven't had experience with those myself.

As for his food, in my opinion it's more important that he eats regularly, so if he will eat that flavour then let him. It's less stressful for you both. But you're right that he may suddenly stop eating it. If he does do that, maybe he will try one of the other flavours then? Especially if they're the small cans and you can switch it up every other day (which is what I do for my fussy cat).

I'm so sorry you and your kitty are going through this. I don't really have any advice but I do think I would be trying a different food if my cat had chin acne.

I had a cat once that broke out with chin acne when I started a new food, it took me a couple of months to figure out it was the food. I switch the food and the acne went away.

Have you ever tried putting Purebites chicken treats on the food. I have a cat with IBD and allergies and she is very picky on top of all that. I recently bought some of those treats for my feral cats and I always offer Peaches any treat I buy and she never eats them. She loves this stuff and can't get enough of it. I now put some on her wet food to get her to eat.

Sorry I'm not much help but I hope your kitty starts feeling better soon.

Cats HATE change, yours may be that way with his food. I would feed him what ever he wants, to get him to eat. Nothing says you HAVE to change. The acne is usually caused by bacteria embedded in plastic plates. If you are still getting it with ceramic I would keep a spray bottle with a weak solution of bleach and spray it and then rinse well, THAT should kill it! It sounds like you are doing all you can, bless you for being such a loving cat parent! I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers, all the luck.

Thanks, he ate a little of duck tonight, which is different but I will stick to the main food for now. I feel like he is going to stop eating again and it's worrying me like crazy

Cats with kidney issues seem to get really picky with food. My CKD cats will love one food and the next day not touch it. Sometimes I'll have 3 different kinds of food out just to get them to eat. My aunts CKD cat did the exact same thing. I think the most important thing is that he eats enough food, even if it's only 1 flavor. One thing that's really help boost my cats appetite is weekly b12 injections which I do at home. Maybe you could ask your vet about trying B12, most cats with IBD are deficient.

:( very frustrating. I hope you get an answer. One thing I thought of is if he's feeling nauseous he won't eat even though he's hungry. I know there are anit-nausea meds you can give which could help, maybe worth discussing with the vet.
