I have a feral cat I let in my garage she uses a cat door to go in and out. I think she might be pregnant because there were male cats around the beginning of February. I have been trying a long time to catch her to get her fixed. She trusts me but won't let me get to close. My vet gave me 2 liquid sedatives to try to put in food, but she smells it and won't touch it. He then gave me some pills I crushed up and put in food and still didn't work.I have also tried the live trap she somehow got out cause the door was closed and of course she will not go near one again.

I wish I got just get someone who knows how to get them to catch her in my garage because I just cannot do it myself. I am running out of time my vets says he will abort up to 4 weeks, which if she is pregnant  would be the end of this month.

Can anyone give me any suggestions. It would be hard to find homes for them since they are feral.

If you do an Internet search, you may locate a group that can help. I found one:  http://www.voiceless-mi.org/tnr/.  If they can't help you, they may know someone who can.

Do you have or can you get a large carrier or crate?  If so, start feeding her in there.  Cover the entire back and sides of the crate with a blanket or sheet.  After a day or two, tie a length of twine to the door, loop it through the top of the crate and walk away with the other end of the twine.  Wait for her to go inside to eat.  Pull the twine gently and close the door behind her when she's well inside.

If you can get close enough to the crate to close the door yourself, use this method.  Once the door closes, she will be upset and will try to escape.  Now pull the blanket over the entire crate and leave her alone for a bit.  She'll calm down.

Do not put food anywhere but inside the crate.  It will force her to go in to eat.

I know time is of the essence, but if it turns out that she has the kittens, they will not be feral - you will have the opportunity to socialize them and thus give them a chance to find homes.

Thank you so much for helping her.  Blessings on you for taking on this challenge!

What about a drop trap?  You might see if there is an organization that can loan you one.

I would also set up the trap again and see if you can start to feed her in it.  Don't set the trap ( use zip ties to keep it open).  Put the food just outside the trap.  Once you eats it there, place it just inside the trap and keep moving it back.  I line my traps with puppy pee pads from the Dollar Tree.  They are cheap and not as crinkly sounding as newspaper.  This method may take awhile, but it's worth a try.  Once she starts eating in the back of the trap, set the trap and cross your fingers!

Thank you for caring and taking care of her.
