Okay so I recently rescued my pregnant kitty from this horrible lady who WAS NOT feeding her. I already had 2 cats before her so I now have 3 cats. I can't possibly afford more so I realize that im going to have to give away some kittens once they're fully weaned. I was thinking of putting an ad on Craigslist but then I heard that evil people look for ads like those so that they can use the kittens as bait for dog fights and God knows what else :( I don't know what to do! I cannot stand the thought of any of the kittens i give away to be tortured or killed or ugh :( I live in Orange county area, California btw. Im just so worried

The thing that scares me most is that once I give away the kittens, they're fate is out of my control

all of us worry about that. asking a rehoming fee, typing up contract, asking questions, doing a home check,  getting references such as a vet even a family member can be helpful they mean't start talking about how they go on trips and never hardly home, getting them fixed will help find a good home

a good pet owner shouldn't complain about the rehoming fee unless it too high, make sure it reasonable. they should sign the contract and show id without problems. called their vet and ask if the vet know who they are and if they good people.

i would wait until they 10 to 12 weeks to find them homes

That's a good idea, I'll have a fee, ask for ID and vet references. If they really love cats and animals they should understand. How am I supposed to spay and neuter all of them  my cats spay is going to cost 170$ (a month after she gives birth)

a month is too soon to spay her, the kittens will only be 4 weeks and will be still nursing until 8 weeks sometimes longer wait until they fully wean then get her fixed

@felineutopia  But keep her in the house and away from intact males in the meantime, she could go into heat anytime after her babies are born.

If you end up not finding a low-cost spay place, I would imagine you could make it the cost of the adoption (and show people the receipt). Although that would require upfront money. I also did a google search for "Orange County, CA low-cost spay" (without the quotes) and got lots of results. Good luck to you! And thank you for doing what you are doing.

My vet told me to take her to get her spay a month after she gives birth so I'm just taking her advice  and the lowest I've found is 40$ for male and 80$ for females :/

I've never heard of doing it after a month, that seems quite early. You might just take everyone all at once when the kittens are old enough. Any responsible pet owner should be happy to give you $100 for alter and shots.

A month after giving birth sounds too early. Cats can come into heat again 4 weeks after giving birth, maybe your vet was worried about another unplanned pregnancy? If you can keep her indoors and away from any intact tom cats it would be better to wait for two months.

The only time I'd recommend spaying a female cat any sooner after giving birth is if she's a feral cat that has to be released back outside. As you're going to be keeping this cat you can afford to wait until her kittens are weaned.

It is possible to spay after a month, but a vet told me that it needs to be done so that the kittens can still nurse, and that means a side incision, not a belly one. In the UK this is quite normal (and I think less painful post op) but in most places they do a long belly incision that must be agony for the mother if the kittens are nursing. Ask the vet.
