I have a girl with Pyometra. She was feeling bad last week. She was not eating much , kept licking herself and going to the litter box. She was put on 2 antibiotics. Yesterday I noticed the white discharge. She may have had it before as cats are so good at licking but I noticed it as last week she was leaking blood and passed two tissue like substances. She is known to be pregnant or she was. She had very pink boobies but now they are no longer so bright pink.

She after a few days of antibiotics is eating better, no fever, wanting attention, drinking, and eating well but we noticed the fluid last night, not a lot but some. I am wondering if she can be treated with the antibiotics successfully and if this seems that she is getting better as she is acting better but again does have the antibiotics. It has only been about 3 days on antibiotics. She is on Clavamox and Clindamycin.

Pyometra can be fatal, even when treated.  It often needs surgery, sometimes emergency surgery.  I would be concerned enough to call your vet on the phone asap and discuss....

I already have. My vet is the one that prescribed the antibiotics in hopes of saving her breeding options. I was hoping to get others experience.

Thank you

I had a champion Himalayan that had an open pyometra and to save her possibility of future breeding she was given antibiotics in hospital thru iv to clear the infection then she was to be treated with hormones, in the hopes to breed her, but I  decided to  forget about breeding and spay her. the risk to her life wasn't worth it. did your vet discuss the risk of not spaying?Risk of reoccurrence?

It can be treated with lutalysee injections by a vet. It is not a comfortable thing for the cat. It stimulates contractions to remove the pus from the uterus. If she is pregnant now she will lose the kittens. It also Isn't a cheap option and most of the time you need a reproductive specialist to do this treatment. Most regular vets just automatically suggest spaying. Truthfully, if I were in that situation again(been there), unless the cat is an outstanding example of the breed and one of the last of the line, I wouldn't choose to put the cat through it. You have to do what you think is best in your situation. Talk it over with the vet. Antibiotics alone will probably not cure it based on what I have read- but a reproductive vet would know best. I know just antibiotics alone did not help my cats, and one who had an open when diagnosed proceeded to a closed while being treated with antibiotics. I was in the process of making a decision on if I was going to spay or treat. When the pyo closed, I opted to spay immediately.
