My little Sassy Josephine was spraying around and I thought I could calm her down a little by putting this collar on her... the day after, one of her eyes started watering and three days later I came home to find it completely swollen shut. The vet cleaned it, didn't  find anything and put her on antibiotics. The swelling went away. As she escapes the cone in about 3 seconds, I put the calming collar (that had lost its flakes by then) back at her, can't hurt to get calm, right? After she had it on for half a day the eye started swelling again. I took it off. We're going to see the vet again, and now I'm researching this thing and asking if anyone else has had any problems besides their cats nearly choking to death by it.

We have some very good reviews on this Sentry Calming Collar for cats, and it's recommended a lot in the behavioral threads. Google tells me it's really safe if you discount the fact that it is not, as advertised, a breakaway. There is a petition out there to recall it for this reason.

So, please: does anyone out there have any bad experience with this collar?

I used to have a cat and his eyes also started swelling when i put the collor on. I don't know much about it but you should either ask your vet or not use it.
ha! thank you for saying that. :Daisy:
I'm not using it, and it's no good talking to any vet about it since if they contact the company, all they get is evidence that there are no recorded side effects. General consensus in vets is the collar is great, no harm and might work (which it apparently does in many cases).

I tried this on Peaches back in 2010 and she got sick real fast. She had only had it on for a couple hours and I had to take it off and throw it away.

I tried them last fall for Noodles' over-grooming issue.  The first collar did help her with the over grooming.  When it was time to change it she started trying to groom that one off of herself and I had to take it off.  I decided to just leave it where she was spending a lot of her time.

Eyes swelling makes me think of an allergic reaction.  Did your vet say anything about that?
