Does this only help
Appetite short term? My cat has been on it for about a month, maybe a lite less and it has helped his appetite a lot but this past week, he is being super picky about his food. He meows for food but then doesntmt want to eat it. After a while he will, but he's being super picky.

I think your vet would be able to answer you on this one. I am glad to hear his appetite came back on the prednisone.

What is the underlying condition that put the cat on Prednisone in the first place? It is a very powerful anti-inflammatory drug used for a number of things, including asthma and feline herpes. It belongs to the steroid group of drugs and usually vets follow up its use carefully as there can be side effects. It often does have marvellous results in improving general health and behaviour, but may not be suitable long term for cats with any tendency to heart problems. As suggested, I would ask your vet and he may try something else or change the dosage.

He is on it for ibd or possible lympotha cancer.
He is Monitered on te lowesr dose possible because he has a heart condition.
Ge is not geting the endoscopy because it will not confirm it 100%

Yes, it will reduce inflammation in the stomach, lungs and intestines. My Wellington takes it for asthma - but I only give him three days' worth now, when he has a flare-up. The vet is concerned that it might affect his heart. But thanks for the info - Has the vet suggested any appetite stimulant? That worked well for my Ellie when she was off her food due to kidney problems, and she hasn't looked back. I can't suggest what else you can do to improve his appetite, other than try to mix some really stinky sardines or salt-free tuna into his food.

Unless he is on a special diet for his IBD, I would suggest you talk to your vet about introducing other foods that he may find appetizing.  I hesitate to suggest you make this change on your own as IBD can be very sensitive ti diet changes, but having said that, he must eat.

Introducing a lamb-based food to my very picky IBD cat seemed to work well
for her. She loved it when she had started hating everything else. I'm not sure if it is good for every IBD cat though, since lamb can be kind of fatty. The appetite stimulant Cyproheptadine has helped too.

She currently loves Pride by Instict Lucky's Lamb, by the way.

I had the same problem with my cat.  He would cry & cry for food but could not eat most of what I tried to give him.  And I am talking about a lot of food; 10-15 kinds of cat food per day, tuna, baby food, yogurt, broth, eggs, turkey, ham, cheese, etc. Good food, bad food, people food; nothing worked. I usually was throwing out enough food to feed 20 cats.   I wish I had an answer for you. Sometimes he would eat a bite or two of some things but nothing consistently.  One thing he seemed to like most days was Catsip.  This is milk for cats.   I am so sorry you are going thru this.  It was hard for me to eat in front of him because he could not.
