Hello everyone, I am new to the site and relatively new to cats as well. I rescued Maya about 8 months ago she is a very intelligent and independent girl. I then moved in with my boyfriend who has had Mishka for 9 years. Mishka and Maya are not exactly friends. Maya always wants to play and Mishka just stares at her or runs off, lol. They are a lot of fun though and we love them very much! Maya is gray and Mishka is white, both are domestic short hair cats.

The problem here is the age difference.  Kittens want to play, and adult females rarely do.  The best thing you could do is adopt another kitten around Maya's age or younger for her to play with, and then Mishka could just relax and watch, as befits her age.  If that is impossible, then you need to have several energetic play sessions with Maya throughout the day to use up all her play energy.   You can run her around with a laser toy, get a DaBird toy and have her chase that until she is worn out, and add a few toys she can play with on her own, like the ball on the track, or the one inside a puzzle house, to keep her amused.  Still, nothing does nearly as well as another kitten, and there are many in need of homes and more on the way, so that would be my first recommendation.
