Hello All,

I have a kitten, maybe about couple of months old. In summary this kitten picked us, we had other kitten a bit older than this one, she came and she was so dirty and had bacteria on large area below one side of the mouth, that the skin was shown. Also, the kitten was so dirty and had a lot of fear of people. The kitten does meow a lot, and is very quite. I took pity on that kitten, i took her to a pet store to get it checked, he told me it was bacteria and gave me a cream, which i used it on the him, now it has fur in that area. I suspect that this kitten was abused before it came to us. Sorry for giving the history but I think it will help in my question. first, the kitten is very quite, and does not meow often, only when hungry, and is very afraid of people, even me, but I have build trust with it, it is more relaxed now with me but from time to time it still runs away.... (I guess more time to go). We keep this kitten outside during the day and from time to time we bring it in to sleep in the house when the weather is very cold. The last few days we had snow, so it has spent it indoors. About 4 days ago, i heard a funny meow (like crying I think or of pain), then I saw it dead-like, it does not have control over its body, slow breathing, when i picked it up, its head went down, so it did not have the energy to hold its head up, its front clause opened up and were stiff, i lifted its front legs upward and let it go, they fell back on the ground, then while lying on the ground it peed, I also noticed its eyes were watery, after that it came back normal, started walking and moving as nothing happened. then, after 10 to 15 minutes, it gave the same cry, and lost its movements, and then it did the big one on the floor (did not go to the cat litter box), i think it was against her will. Then I put her in the car and took to the pet shop, by the time I arrived there, it was back on its feet, the shop owner had a look at it and told he does not suspect there is something with it, he said it may be want to mate. He gave me worm bill to give it to it.  Anyway, couple of days later, he did the cry again and went into dead like position for a minute with light breathing and was up again as nothing happened, this happened yesterday once and today once.

I don't know what is wrong with the kitten, did anyone face this? what action to do ???

thanks for your help..

It sounds to me like your kitten is having seizures.  This may be epilepsy or else another problem with the brain.  If you can get the kitten to a good vet as soon as possible, that would be advisable.  There are anti-seizure medications to treat epilepsy which will reduce or control the seizures.  The kitten may also have some brain damage from an earlier injury which could be causing seizures.  In the meantime, keep a journal an make note of whenver the cat has these episodes so you will have a record to show the vet.  Good luck

that does sound like seizures, we had a dog that used to have them and you described exactly the same behavior.

Thanks for your reply, it helped a lot. I like to ask other question (maybe dumb!!!!, but have to ask it), could this be infectious to people? should I be worried? will transfer any sickness to people? We have two kids who come and play with it, so I want to make sure the cat is safe,

I really appreciate all your comments,

Thanks a lot,

No, your children and you cannot 'catch' whatever is wrong with your kitty. Like the other posters said, I suspect it is some type of seizures. You might also try video taping an episode and show it to your vet.
