I just got a call from my vet about Luci's surgery.

It was a total shocker, but she did indeed have pyometra. She was in the early stages. The vet said that her uterus was between the size of a nickel and a quarter and was full of puss. I guess what saved her was that for the first few days she had the discharge. There had not been any in the last couple of days.

She is fine and it was caught in time.
She will be coming home with a course of antibiotics jut to be on the safe side.

I am so thankful for everyone here who brought this to my attention. This precious cat is very dear to my daughter and it would kill me if anything happened to her.

Hugs all around!!!!!

I am so glad that it was caught very early.  I don't know from experience or having read it but it makes sense that draining, or an open pymetra, would be less dangerous.  What is fatal about it is that the uterus swells to the point that it ruptures and then there is infection throughout the abdomen along with the bleeding.  Draining, even a small amount, would put that off some I would think.

That's what her vet said. It saved her life and by getting her in to be spayed so soon it didn't have a chance to get too enlarged.

What I read said it was a lot like an appendicitis and if not treated early enough is fatal.

I guess she is on life #2 and 7 to go...hopefully a long long time for that. She is one lucky little girl.

Update on Luci's after surgery weekend.

The surgery went well. The weekend was alright. She was very quiet most of the weekend. Easily took her antibiotics and pain meds. She wanted out late Saturday to walk around. I put my boys out so they wouldn't bother her and let her have run of the house.

My bf's dog, who normally don't pay her any attention decided to jump at her and she jumped on the table to her box. This happened a couple times before I got him to leave her alone. I put her in her crate to sleep overnight (Saturday). I noticed yesterday she had some redness and swelling on her belly and it was warm, almost feverish. She was eating and would come out of her box to get loved on but laid around most of the day yesterday. I called the vet to let him know and hopefully he will call me back today. This morning she ate, took her antibiotic and I put her back in her crate since no one would be home. The heat and redness had gone down but still some swelling.

I know this was a little more extensive surgery than a normal spay since she had the pyometra but I'm just a worry wort. I don't want her to be in pain. She isn't laying like she is, she's all stretched out on her side, but again I worry more than normal.

Is she eating, drinking and using the litter box?

Yes she is doing all of those. I have been watching her like a hawk, almost stalking her LOL. She hasn't gotten out of my site most of the weekend. I even got up several times during the night to make sure she was alright.

I know those are the best signs but this little girl has been through so much in her short life already. She has beat death twice already. Not much as many of these on her but to me it's rough. I know she will be alright. Thanks.

Luci is doing very well. The swelling has gone down. She is really bruised though, I'm sure most of it is from surgery but also from the dog making her jump a few times. I have been keeping them separate. She is only allowed out when he's in another room. She will be on her antibiotics until Friday but is not so stiff now when she's walking.

Of course she is the first one I went to when I got home from work yesterday and let her out of the crate. She had been in it all day. She got lots of loving, not only from me but Sammy (her BFF)too.

Thanks everyone!!!!!!!
