As the temps hover around zero outside - our cats spend a lot of time sitting next to the wood stove....

They usually change position every ten minutes or so, presumably so they get heated up evenly

But when I pet them, they are so hot it seems like they would be uncomfortable.

Exactly how hot does a cat sitting near a wood stove get?

I used a infrared temperature meter to investigate!

The side away from the wood stove is a toasty 84 degrees..

The stove side topped out at 119 degrees!

So if you are weird like me and wonder about these things...now you know!

Wow! Not surprised though. My mom once had to kick her cats off the dryer after my dad noticed the back was red hot. It was almost a lint fire. The plastic bucket the cats were in melted. Did the cats notice? Nope, they were asleep.

I still shudder thinking of what almost was...[emoji]128563[/emoji]

My cats love the heat from the radiator. They sit on the cover and hang their heads over so the heat coming from the front drifts up and hits them in the face. They just love it, falling sound asleep, heads hanging over the side. :catguy:
