What's the longest you have had a spay stitch stay in?

Mama Catss was spayed in November. There is one stitch left. It isn't sore (I can tug it), it isn't embedded, the skin isn't red or growing around it. It is just a perfect little knot of wire with two little ends sticking out. I'm going to call her vet tonight, but is this totally weird?

I don't think it's very common to leave a stitch in for that long- especially since most become red and the skin begins to grow over it. I'm glad this isn't happening to your girl! I would definitely call the vet and take her in to have it removed, just to be on the safe side.

I've never heard of leaving a stitch in that long. Its just not necessary. And like the previous poster said, risks having skin overgrow it. My cat had dissolving stitches, so we didn't need to return. Definitely call the vet to get it properly removed.

Agree about taking her in to have the stitch removed. I'm surprised the vet didn't ask you to bring her back in 10-14 days after surgery to have the external sutures removed.

That's WAY too long! Every cat I've had spayed the stitches had to be removed, maybe they missed that one. I'd call the vet and ask, or you can remove it by clipping the knot off with a fingernail scissors and then pulling on the thread with a tweezers. All the luck!

They didn't say a word! I would have made the appointment right then! I had it in my head, whether from them or just me that they were dissolving, because I don't remember taking my other girl in to have her stitches removed (been years, but same vet.) I didn't notice it for a while because belly rubs cause biting on her.

Did you remove the stitch, or take her in to have it removed? It's odd they wouldn't say anything about them either being dissolving stitches, or coming back in to have them removed. My kitty didn't wait any time to remove hers on her own, and I had to go back in and have her sutured glued so she couldn't do that again.

I removed the stitches myself when I had one of my cats spayed.  I used a very small scissors, slipped it under the stitch close to the knot and then using a tweezers grabbed the knot and pulled it out.  I had no problems in doing this.

I'm going to give it a try tonight and if I don't feel comfortable, I will take her in. It looks pretty simple, but she turns from docile to maniac when placed on her back. I left the vet a message and they will get back to me I'm sure. I just want to make sure that was her only non-dissolving stitch. It is the only exterior one I ever noticed. I guess I should have known by the looks of it that it would need to be removed. It is odd they didn't ask to schedule a follow up. We did not see the vet when we picked her up. They only have a part-time (one or two  days a week) small animal vet right now (it is a farm  practice.)
