4health (Tractor Supply brand) is now available in grain-free wet food. It's not perfect, but it's affordable at 69 cents / 5.5 oz. can. My cats do well on the 4health brand, such beautiful coats after switching from Meow Mix and the like. I've been feeding the regular 4health canned food (with the rice in it) and the upgrade seems like a no brainer, but I'd like some opinions. I got the turkey flavor, which seemed nice -  looked and smelled like turkey, and the cats ate it quickly. I'm undecided on the other flavor because I'm not crazy about feeding whitefish.

Just when I was considering splurging on the expensive grain-free brands, my current budget-friendly brand offers grain-free. Any thoughts?

Thanks for sharing about Tractor Supply's new grain-free cat food and giving us the whole formula of both flavors.  I will copy that information for my files.  I didn't know about it yet.  I get my litter there (Best Cob Premium Horse Bedding!) and usually get my wet food through the shelter I volunteer with when they have donations, so I had not bought canned food for awhile and did not know TSC had come up with a grain free food.  It looks to me like even the "fish" formula is not ONLY fish, and in fact chicken, chicken broth an liver are all in larger quantities than the whitefish, so this is a healthy food for those cats who think they only want fish.  It will appeal to their taste buds while still being healthier for them.  I would not hesitate to feed either one of these foods.

That's a good point about the whitefish being further down the list. I think I will pick up some of the Chicken & Whitefish flavor.

I'm going to keep some of the regular cans in rotation so they can have a bit more variety than these two flavors, and honestly too much of a change makes me nervous. I've heard grain-free formulas cause urinary problems in some cats, but I think that is the dry food and not wet food. The regular 4health, both wet and dry, has been great for the two years I've been feeding it - my ferals look as beautiful as house cats now.
And I have hopes for these to be even healthier for them.

Thanks for posting this!! That's a good price. I still might compare the carrageen with what I use now for canned (Purina Beyond). I never knew they carried decent cat food there. Hope my local store does.

That's not a bad price. . .and I'm glad they made it without any plant products instead of substituting potatoes like a lot of manufacturers! I'll have to check it out.

misterwhiskers---every TSC I've been to has the higher-end foods, but if high-quality pet foods aren't a big seller in that town, some of the products may be expired :/. So I think your local TSC should have the foods, just keep an eye on the expiration dates.

Well, now that I've been feeding grain-free 4health, my cat refuses the regular 4health. She's a former feral and not even a picky eater normally - guess she just really likes it. Oh well, the ferals will eat it.

My cats don't like the regular 4Health canned food at all. Never have. Looking at the ingredients, I think it's the potatoes. That's the only thing that's different from other cat foods they like. Glad to hear the grain-free is more palatable! I meant to pick some up last time I was there but forgot.

Anyone try the Chicken and Whitefish? I am new to this brand and opened this flavor to 80% gravy and a floppy patty of ...? Does this look right?

I feed it to my ferals sometimes, and no that doesn't look right, I wouldn't feed that. It is pretty soupy, but it doesn't look like vomit normally.

Thanks, I didn't think so. All other flavors I bought look fine and the cats seem to love it. Will return and stick to the chicken without fish.

Anyone notice that Tractor Supply has stopped carrying their grain free canned food in the salmon and the chicken? Cant even order it on the website. Those were the only ones my cats will eat.

Oh, I didn't know that yet.  That was the one my chubby girl on weight reduction liked the best.  They have two kinds of grain free food that have low calories, i.e. under 180 calories a can, and that was one of them.  The chicken is 193 and the chicken and whitefish is 179 which isn't low calorie.

I recently purchased 4health all stages cat for for my 15 week old kitten. I tried different foods and couldn't get him to eat dry food period! I tried this and within 3 days he is eating fairly well. It's a good cat food. I was spending almost six dollars a day on wet kitten food!! This was only 19 dollars and super healthy. I'm really excited to see him happier and healthier!!

I really, really hope that you did not eliminate the wet food from your kitty's diet.  Water/moisture in cat food is very important, and dry food is, well, dry.  Please read Dr. Pierson's website on cat nutrition (http://catinfo.org/) if you have not already.

They must have run out when you posted (2 weeks ago) but I was there yesterday and they had grain free Salmon - they are not calling it Salmon & Chicken, but chicken is the 3rd ingredient, after Dish Broth and Salmon, so it's definitely Salmon & Chicken.  So glad to have my "diet food" available again.  Its only 145 calories per can.  The turkey is 193 a can, and I don't use the whitefish.

Unfortunately they were out of my litter (horse bedding) and won't have any in until Wednesday, so I'll haveto revert to clay litter for awhile.  Ugh.

I wonder when they will have it at my store. But the calorie count seems real low. I wonder why? But if you are looking for a good grain free food nutrition has some good ones. It's like 0.94 a can but it's worth it. My Riley eats the kitten wet food by nitro. He loves it and my pocket loves it too.
