Hi, I'm a first time cat owner (by myself) and just want some opinions! I'm feeding my cat Norah Purina One and Sheba Pate. The Purina One is what the shelter was feeding her, so I continued on. I'm also on a tight budget. I am just wondering if I'm giving her the right portions? She is around 8.5lbs and I give her one can of Sheba a day (3oz), and mix it with 4-5 tablespoons of Purina One. I leave out dry food as well just in case, but she doesn't even nibble on it unless I'm out for longer than expected. I feed her 4 times a day with this portion.

Hw old is she? That makes a difference.

Just to make sure I have this right---4 times a day, she gets a meal of 1/4 can of Sheba mixed with 4-5 tablespoons of dry food, right? That adds up to over a cup of dry food a day plus a 3-oz can. . .that might be bit much unless she's very active or is still growing. 2-3 tablespoons of dry at each meal would probably be more appropriate.

But of course every cat has different needs, so mostly go by her body condition. If she starts to get chubby, cut back. If she gets too skinny, feed more.

are you able to weigh her at home? to me, this is the best guide.

She is an indoor only cat. I play with her (run around and jump) about 10-15min a day. She is spayed and around 2 years old, according to the guess by the vet. @detmut I weighed her today and she is 8.6lbs. @Willowy  she gets fed 4 times a day, totaling to a 3oz can and 4-5 tablespoons. So at each feeding I give her a fourth of the can and one tablespoon or two mixed. So in one day total she gets a 3oz can of wet, and a 1/4 cup of dry food spread out. Sorry for any confusion! I appreciate the responses!

that's good. if she is around 9 pounds, she should get at least 180 calories per day. if she loses weight, you can add more food. calories per pound can vary from 18-30 calories per pound.
