@cat nap   Here you go! A few butterflies for you. When I am not fussing at my cats, I am crawling through the mud stalking butterflies. I really do think that my pictures of my cats are of lesser quality than my macros, in general.

Although I have to admit it's more fun threatening to flood @MServant   with them than actually posting them.

Lovely pictures.  I agree, love that last one too.  Might be because the butterfly looks furry, but there is something about the eye as well.

Have you been threatening to flood me with photographs?
I LOVE photos, I don't think anyone can post too many (esp when they involve cats) .
Have you tried taking macro shots of Sinbad and Tempest?  I really enjoy taking them of Mouse, and I did of my previous 2 cats as well though their fur was less interesting in texture.

@MServant  I've tried, but neither of them are willing to let me get that close with a camera. Tempest will usually run away so that my only shot of her is that pose that I call her diva stance. And Sinbad is just camera shy in general. The moment he sees the camera he's running away or hiding his face. They're both getting better though, so I'm hoping over time I'll be able to get more variable pics of them that are of better quality too.

Here's another close up of that skipper. I actually have a version where I edited Gibbon's hat onto it, because all I can think of when I see his little bearded face is sharp dressed man. Is that not a beard that could grace the face of ZZ Top????

I don't generally like posting large pictures, but these work best when seen at full size, and the largest size option here is the closest to full size as I can get.

I'm very fond of the little skipper at the bottom, wearing his dandelion tuft hat.

@Losna thanks so much.  In the midst of this frigidly cold, february winter, ...it's so nice to look at photos of warmer days, and those butterflies, have the most unusual legs.  My favourite would be the first, because of the red and black colour, but that "furry" "skipper"..is very unique.

I had to look up the boys in the ZZ Top band: "Billy Gibbons...guitar player"...because I first thought, that you meant the "primate 'gibbon'"....(oh, well, I eventually catch on, I think.)

And yeah, that "skipper butterfly" does actually look like he has a long beard.  hilarious. (I learn something new on TCS everyday..
).

No, no, no...why would you think that your cat photos are of lesser quality....(Maybe because you like challenges...like "crawling through the mud and stalking butterflies".

)  (If there would only be a way to not get the camera to click, or to not get the cats to hear it...then I'd like to know. )  (Another member, told me to play around with the manual settings and also to use "overexposure" for when the room is dark, or the cat is black.  I'll try that.)

The Billy Gibbons beard is indeed a good likeness.

Pretty much the only way I get macro shots of my cats is when they're sleeping.
It's fun to see how many I can take before Mouse wakes up and realizes he's been 'shot'.

Okay, not exactly a butterfly, but a dragonfly.

(My cousin took the photo, she is like you @Losna...and likes to go outside and photograph, pretty things, in the summer months.)

I thought you all needed a zoom lens to get those close-up photos of cats, bugs, flowers. etc.??    (Hmm...macro settings.
)

(I would really like to see that edited version of "skipper with zz top hat...sharp dressed butterfly??)

@cat nap  I keep meaning to edit in a stage in place of the rock, little microphone, etc but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Nope... It could be an outdoor concert on a Rock.  All I think it needs is a guitar, and maybe a car, somewhere. That hat is great.!!  Sharp Dressed Butterfly...but he's the one with the 'legs' so I don't know how that works.

@cat nap  Some more wonderful world of butterflies. Would you believe this is the same butterfly in both these shots?

To give you some scale, that's a blade of grass she's on in the first, and a clover flower in the second. She's an itty bitty little girl

I have a particular fondness for these and spend a lot of time following them around.

Here's a male of that species. You can tell their gender by the amount of orange on their wings. Females have a single spot of orange.

This one makes me think of a fairy prince, decked out in white fur for a fantasy ball.

They are just breathtakingly, awesome!  I find them very relaxing, and peaceful, too.

(I would not have believed that both top photos were of the same butterfly....how amazing, that the underside is such a luxuriously different colour.

Nature is amazing, and I would never have noticed them in the wild...so thank you.)

That orange tipped male, is simply stunning.  Yes, I agree, he does look like he is "decked out in white fur...for a fantasy ball"

@cat nap  Thanks! Glad you are enjoying them! I am just counting down the days till it gets warmer and I can go out and take more... my husband is often frustrated by me in terms of spotting them. We'll be in the backyard and I'll suddenly grab him and shout DON'T STEP THERE!!! CAN'T YOU SEE THE BUTTERFLY!!!
I also have some lovely butterfly porn...

I could never tire of looking at these beautiful pictures!   However, my little Speedy cat would not be allowed into the botanical gardens, because she is crazy about chasing moths!  Thanks for such great photos.

Keep posting these photos.  They are gorgeous, and so crisp and clear.
There is something so peaceful about butterflies, I don't know why, and such stunning natural colours and designs.
