yesterday my sisters year and a half old cat passed away. it has been bugging me so i have to ask somebody what could have caused this.

when we first got him he had a problem with seizures. we took him to the vet and they told us he was also blind. they gave us medicine  and told us to change his food. so we did. a year passes by and he has not had one seizure. two nights ago we were all sitting in the living room when we hear him fall off my moms hope chest. he was having a seizure, a really bad one. we tried to stay as calm as possible because we didn't want to scare him even more. he would go in and out of them. it was the worst thing i have ever seen. we were getting ready to take him to the vet when he started to calm down. then he slipped away. he passed away and we have no idea what happened to him because he was doing so good. did we do something wrong? and was there something we could have done to prevent this? the vet we went to didn't really explain anything to us they just gave us the  medicine and said he would be fine.

It's odd that the vet didn't try to give your a diagnosis, just the medicine. It sounds like epilepsy, which can be managed with medication. Reminds me of my inlaw's dog who used to have epileptic fits. They were awful to watch, and the poor dog was so confused and scared afterwards.
I'm sorry your sister's cat passed away so suddenly. It's frustrating to not have any answers, but really it would just be guesswork trying to figure it out after the fact.

how long was the last seizure? severe and long/multiple seizures can be fatal. i don't think anyone did anything wrong. he was medicated and you didn't have time to take him to the vet before he died.

The worst form of seizure is one in which the cat has one or more grand mal episodes without recovering from the first. This cat may actually be in a seizure for hours. This is termed 'Status Epilepticus' and is usually referred to simply as 'Status'. Seizures by themselves are not life threatening unless they progress into Status, in which case medical attention should be sought immediately.
