It feels like I've been on these boards so much lately. Here goes. Adopted a kitten 2 weeks ago from a rescue. A few days later she got a cold with greenish snot. The vet told me she'll work it out on her own. She's been doing great and her sneezing stopped being snotty. Well today she's been sounding very stuffy and breaths through her mouth. It gets really bad when she sleeps or after she runs around. It sounds like she just needs a good nose blowing but of course that's not possible. I've steamed her in the bathroom and it helps but eventually will come back. She has an appt Friday for a booster but am wondering if we can wait that long. She's eating and playing but just sounds so stuffed up.

She needs to be seen by a vet immediately and wait on the shot until she's 100% over this.  It's very, very, very common for kitties to become sick with an URI about 10 days or so after being adopted. In the meantime, you can use plain saline drops like Little Noses (for babies) to help clear up the snot.  I'm concerned about the open mouth breathing as that's a big flag something's not right.  Make sure she keeps eating and stays hydrated.

I will get her in first thing tomorrow. When she wakes up she'll do this snorty sneezy thing a bunch of times and whistles through her nose when she sleeps. Can the vet do something to open her sinuses like a Nebulizer or something?

The vaccine is not a fix once the kitten has a uri.

They should never be given to a sick kitten, only once she is fully well again.

She needs liquid clavamox to get well. By the 5th dose you will clearly see an improvement.

Meanwhile steaming her is good, also as was mentioned, Little Noses is good, for a quick relief.

When they can't smell they won't eat, so watch her appetite that she doesn't stop eating and drinking well.

The open mouth breathing is simply due to her stopped up nose.

Back from the vet. He says her lungs sound clear but that her sinuses are plugged. He gave her a Covenia injection and a bag of Lysine treats to boost her immune system.
She's as hungry as always and racing around so hopefully she'll be better in no time.
Covenia scares me a bit but my other cat had it before will an gland blockage near his bum and had no side effects. We'll see with kitty.

I hope the Convenia shot helps.  Watch her for side effects.
Thanks! It's been about 8 hours since the shot and she's still as nuts as ever so I don't think it's having an ill-affect.
