Am I the only one has has trouble choosing lamps/lighting?

I've never been able to do this well. I've just been through 300 online pages of ceiling fixtures, and can't find one I like.

We're going to totally re-do this room (the "Study"), from where I post on TCS. No, we will not have a cat theme in honor of TCS. Sorry.   It all started due to the warped laminate floor, which is actually dangerous when it swells up in the center--you can trip on it. We're putting down tile.  I've always wanted a ceiling light fixture.  DH thinks he can do it.  The room is about 10x21 sq. feet, so I think I need a chandelier with 5 lights. By "chandelier", I mean something mostly metal, not the crystal, fancy kind, BTW.  I have no idea how I chose the other two we have in other rooms! I don't remember having that trouble before!  It may be because my taste is changing a bit, and becoming a bit more modern. I don't know how to reconcile modern with the other lights, which I can't afford to replace.  Everything seems to be mostly brushed nickel, which I sort of like, but won't go with mine.

Yeah this can be tough!

If going through endless pages of fixtures hasn't helped, maybe trying to look through interior decor type pics and rooms that might resemble what you have going on in there that is staying.

Without seeing a pic of this room it's really hard to say.

Post a pic maybe??

@MargeCat -- what do your other light fixtures look like (the ones you want the new chandelier to go well with)? could you post a pic(s)?

have you looked at etsy dot com? i love that website. they have a lot of different light fixtures including chandeliers of pretty much all sorts.

I do get online to look for lighting, but we have a really neat lighting store in the area and I love to go in there and just walk around. I've gotten lots of great ideas from that store. And the personnel is wonderful; they will help with recommendations.

Marge haven't you heard, the road to hell is paved with decorating choices. 

I can never use things like lighting catalogs, I need to see the fixture photographed in a room and then go on the hunt for a similar fixture.

Have you tried houzz.com?  Lots of search capabilities.

i absolutely love houzz! i get their daily emails, which give me quite a lot of interesting pics and items to get ideas from. in fact, i've gotten quite a few solid ideas for my kitchen remodel (will be in about 7-9 years from now, as i have other home improvements to have done first). one of those ideas is to use edison bulbs hanging downward on their cords for above my kitchen island/sink area/breakfast bar -- i think they'll be just perfect there.

i definitely agree that looking at houzz might help to find the lighting that @MargeCat wants.

I'm a fan of Franklin Iron Works, have you looked at any of their chandeliers? They are wrought iron, really beautiful.

I also love the edison bulbs!
