I hate housecleaning. With a passion. I'm going through the house....vacuuming, dusting, cleaning the bathroom, etc. I hate it. Hate washing windows and washing the floor. Hate it, I tell you.

But I love to cook. I love to bake.

So if would cook you dinners or bake for you, would you clean for me?

Which would your rather do: cook or clean? Do you hate cooking or cleaning?

I would rather cook then clean.  Cleaning seems so pointless.  Swear to God, I vacuum the house and then the husband comes home, does not take off his boots and walks thru dragging all the dirt and whatever else thru my freshly vacuumed floor.  Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

My happy place.
I'll take cleaning over cooking any day.
Although I do cook I don't get any enjoyment from it whatsoever but hubby on the other hand loves cooking, especially baking.
When I'm cleaning I put on some music and I'm away. I love the feeling of order when everything is clean, tidy and in its place. :anon:

That is the agreement DH and I have had since early in our marriage.  I cook; he cleans.  I don't care if the pots and pans aren't done till the next morning; just that they are done. DH is a morning person and typically works late; so I understand he is exhausted after dinner and just wants to get to bed.  When I get up in the morning the pots and pans are typically drying next to the sink.  We share dishwasher duties.

I don't mind cooking if I'm left to it.  DH would rather clean.  it works nicely.

I do both usually, but I hate cooking. Cleaning is a lot easier for me because I can go at my own pace especially with 2 kids wanting my attention. It's a lot harder to cook with a demanding 2 year old and a crying 4 month old.

Hah... that was supposed to be our agreement as well.  However, for various reasons, that has not panned out.

The first factor was hubby's work schedule.  It is unpredictable, and often can run 12-16 hr days.  Then, he can be not working for a week or two.  So the agreement was amended to "When you're not working, you help with the cleaning.  If you want to cook, then I'll clean."   That, ummmm... has not exactly panned out either.

Problem is, I don't like the kitchen to be in disarray for too long.  I prefer to put food away and dishes washed within an hour after meals.  Hubby is a procrastinator.  I get frustrated because he is not quick enough, he gets frustrated because I'm too quick (not giving him a chance).

Thing is, I used to enjoy cooking more, but now I'm just as likely to order Chinese delivery.  And I don't necessarily enjoy cleaning, but I hate having a dirty or cluttered kitchen... so... I end up doing it all.

As for the rest of the housecleaning, Hubby doesn't vacuum or dust because he's allergic to dust.  He also just does not have an eye for cleaning.  He'd leave the toilets and shower for months before he thinks about cleaning them.  And, no matter how many times I've shown him how to clean windows and mirrors, he just can't seem to get the technique without leaving streaks all over the place.

Occasionally, Hubby will clean the kitchen floors, and generally he is in charge of laundry.  Other than that, he is relegated to handyman and garden chores.

I'd hire you a cleaning service.

I like to cook and bake as well. I hate cleaning but it's just me most of the time so tough turnips for me.

I have 4 black animals that shed a lot. The vacuum never gets put away. Ever.

I actually love to clean, but my back pain prevents me from doing much.   So if my health were better, I would gladly trade cooking for cleaning :)

As stated before...I would rather COOK than clean! I hate dusting! Vacuuming, If done quickly, without moving furniture, is ok.....

But, if you cook for me, then I would do the dishes......

I LOVE cooking.

I HATE cleaning.

Yes, I need a private butler or similar,  My BF is a big help but since he doesn't excel at either, hired help would be awesome!

I wish I could hire someone to clean, but I would feel so awkward having someone clean for me. If they came when I wasn't home, I'd worry they would let the cats out or something, and if I were home, I'd feel super weird just sitting around playing on the computer or whatever. So I guess I'm stuck with it due to my own awkwardness :tongue2:.

I don't love cooking but it's definitely better than cleaning! :lol3:

I'd rather clean, which is good, since I have 10 cats!  I like seeing everything in order, and love that freshly-cleaned house scent. The only things I really hate are making beds (stripping them for laundry even more), putting laundry away, and emptying the dishwasher. I'd rather hand wash the dishes that need to be loaded if it means unloading the blasted machine first. I vacuum the floors at least every other day.We don't have much dust, though, so that's not an everyday chore. I also have to sweep cat fur off the wood stairs at least once a day. I recently bought a robotic vac for each level of the house, and refuse to EVER live without one. I usually run the upstairs vac as I'm getting ready for work.

I do enjoy cooking, at least for other people, but still prefer cleaning to cooking.

I really hate cleaning. If I'm in the mood to clean, then I'm fine. I'll throw some CDs in the changer, enough to see me through the day and then attack the house. But I have to be thinking about it and ready that morning. I have to awaken, get out of bed, have my coffee, turn the music on, and GO.

And I can't stop. If I stop, then I have to motivate myself to get started again.

Sometimes I think it would be nice to hire a cleaning lady, but then I'd probably have to clean the house before she got here, so she didn't think we were complete slobs!

...with the cats...
i'd much rather bake than clean, and i'd rather bake than cook. i like cooking too, so i'd much rather cook than clean too. however, i do love a clean and organized home, so i do the cleaning. i used to have trouble getting motivated to do the cleaning, but what helps me is to think of cleaning as "something to do, not to think about". that's part of the reason i do "busy days" where i clean and do laundry (among other things), because after i've got the cleaning/laundry done i don't have to think about it for 3 more days (5 more days during the winters).

The one thing I hate about cooking is the cleaning up afterward.  I do cook most of the week and hate washing the dishes.  When my back is bad I just use the dishwasher tho I don't need to use the dishwasher every day.

I am very late catching this thread but it caught my eye. I actually HATE to cook. :lol3: I am a complete disaster in the kitchen. Dropping things, messing up left and right, dropping ingredients all over the place, on the floor. Usually I prefer to use my slow cooker. Much safer for me. I hate a dirty kitchen too and when I think about making a huge splattering mess on the stove it curls my spine. I am so organized that after each ingredient, I clean up. I spend more time cleaning up after myself during preparation and cooking which makes it not so worthwhile to me. OMG - when I have to have a Holiday at my house. I am a complete wreck after all of the cooking is done and I practically have to go to bed. I remember one time my sister came to stay with us. She made dinner one night in MY kitchen. OMG - it was a mess. AND, she kept asking - what happened to the spoon I had out? (it was washed and put away) What happened to the pan I had put aside, I need to use it again for something (It was washed and put away :lol3:), what happened to the "this/that"?? Then she got out a bottle of wine and said "HERE, drink this and leave me alone!!!" :lol3: Have to say, it did help a little bit. ;)

SOOOOOOO - absolutely, I would clean over cook any day and would actually love to have a barter agreement for at least four meals a week - Sunday through Wednesday (we go out to eat Thurs, Fri and Sat.)- and I will clean your house plus mine. :lol3: BUT - I would be worried that did not or may not have cleaned according to one's expectations. I know if I had a cleaning crew, I would have to clean before they came and probably after they came because they may not do it right. argh. I make life way too hard. :lol2:

p.s. I DO want to say on my behalf that I DO cook, I just don't enjoy it and that my dear hubby loves my recipes. I do make some yummy things, I just hate the mess during the whole process. :nothappy:

p.s.s. Really. If I had it my way and was very rich and wealthy, I would hire an excellent cook and an excellent house cleaner and hang out with my cat's out in the enclosed HUGE covered catio that may contain a pool for my summertime enjoyment and read books and do my needlepoint all day long. - a girl can dream. :9:

If I was rich and could afford a cleaning lady (and could afford to be home with her, so I know she won't let the cats outside!!), that's the route I'd take. But still, yeah, I'd have to do some cleaning myself first so she wouldn't think we were total slobs. And, you know, we're not total slobs. Honest. I clean, I vacuum, I do laundry. There's always something to do around here to keep it from turning into Slob City.

I do clean as I cook. Or try to. It's easier when I'm doing a big dinner because then I work ahead of time and clean as I go. Much easier than trying to get it all done at once.

My sister and BIL come over for dinner sometimes. I do the wine thing with her. It's for the best. One time I handed her a block of Parmesan and a Microplane and she looked at me like I was an alien.

"And what do I do with this?"

"Seriously??"

"Haven't a clue..."

So I explained about the grater and grating the cheese. And she took a couple strokes with the cheese.....and cut her finger on the grater. (And it was a big block of Parmesan, too! I know she did it on purpose. I know she did! Just so she wouldn't have to grate the cheese!
) She gets the wine. I get the cooking. It's better that way. No bandages.

Oh, and I forgot about the conversation after we had her bandaged up.

"Pam, haven't you ever heard of Kraft?"

"Yellow sawdust. Not going there."

"Really? Yellow sawdust? In my fridge?"

"Yes. Really. Shut up and drink your wine."

I like to cook, but don't like to clean. I'll get into cleaning sprees sometimes, usually at the most ridiculous hours too.

The BF usually does both the cooking and the cleaning... not really sure how it ended up that way! He always messes with me about how I never cook, but that's because he always jumps in the kitchen and has at it, then has everything in the dishwasher afterward.

If I cook and clean, I usually rinse/wash the stuff and put it in the dishwasher as I go.

I couldn't live without a dishwasher ... my ex-MIL didn't have one, and I hated hand washing everything when we lived there. When my ex & I were together, I did all the cooking & cleaning myself.

:lol3: This made me laugh out loud!!!

:anon: I have cut myself on a microplane grater before too. Your sister and I would be a real comedy show in the kitchen. :lol3: I also have sawdust in my fridge. :D I like to make things real simple and easy when I cook/bake. My SIL, Carrie is the complete opposite of me. They live in Chicago and her and my brother love cooking. When I go there, I watch a bit, learn a bit, and drink wine too and then I always do the clean up. I love their cooking and they love my cleaning up. It works great. My brother has a wine cellar loaded with some really exquisite and unusual wines so we try to invite ourselves over whenever possible.

Yup - my kitchen nightmares are a total fiasco and actually anyone who knows me knows this and seems to thoroughly enjoy watching me fumble about. :wife: Larry gets a good laugh now and again. I am just SOOOO glad I can oblige them all with my ineptitude at it's finest when it comes to cooking. :D
