I am so heartbroken. He was a big Tom and I went out to feed him and saw him laying in the middle of the road blood coming from his ear and nose. He was gone. I feel so guilty. We live in a gated community so I never thought he would be hit by a car. He didn't look like he was 100% the last couple days maybe a little under the weather. I want to think he just died naturally and collapsed but I don't know. He was laying peacefully in the middle of the street. He was still warm when I found him. It's killing me not knowing what happened and the fact he just died before I woke up. If I was just there a few minutes earlier[emoji]128547[/emoji]

It sounds like it was most likely very sudden and there's nothing you could have done in that case.  He was a very fortunate guy to have you in his life and I am so sorry for your loss

I pray it wasn't a car. I would have probably heard it because it was very close to my house. Just stinks not knowing and I'm just trying to convince myself he died of natural causes or non accident causes with stays. He was bleeding from the ear and nose so I assumed a car. He was always too scared of me for me to get a photo of him he was a big brown Tabby with big green eyes. Hurts like he was one of my own house cats. He was fat and happy when he was here with us he probably weighed close to 14lbs so he never went hungry and had his electric blanket on the porch I could tell he was there last night[emoji]128515[/emoji] I'll bury him this afternoon under the bushes he liked to hide under....

So sorry about your loss. I find the pain and distress of losing an outside cat I care for is often equal to that of losing my own house cat. Even more so sometimes because you usually don't know the details and constantly think maybe you could have done more to prevent it. I always hope they didn't suffer and went quickly. At least he was loved and cared for by you which is better than most outside cats get to experience.

You are right. It is harder because you don't know what happened to them. He will be missed....

Oh how I know this one............

I'm so sorry, pretty sure he was hit. If he were sick and died he wouldn't be laying out in the open but would have hid himself pretty good and waited to die.

A car isn't the worst thing, he didn't even know it was coming and is instant from head trauma.

You gave him a better life, always remember this. I know all the feelings that come with losing one our outdoor cats.

I love them all like crazy, and call them my cats away from home.

I buried him today under the bush he used to like. I do still feed 2 other strays and I don't want them to meet the same fate. The speed limit in the neighborhood is supposed to be 15 mph. I have to also deal with a homeowners association. I'm thinking of finding some sort of yard flag post the small ones with some sort of cat crossing flag and pass it off as a yard ornament. Or maybe tying something on my mailbox. Not sure what to do....
