One of our cats has a skin tag on the back of his right leg.  He's actually had this twice before and the vet put him under full anesthetic for the day to cut it off.  We now have a new vet who didn't seem to know what to do (asked me what they did last time).

The thing is this little bulb maybe 1/2" on its longest edge.  It's only held onto his foot by like 1mm of skin.  I'm tempted to just rip it off.  If I pull at it (lightly) it does not bother him.  I'm worried how much he might bleed if we did this.  Knocking him out for a full day is not going to be good for him and cause lots of stress.  He has been biting at it a little although not enough to tear it off (although may happen any day now)

Any advice?  Thanks

My cat had a big skin tag under her chin the vet told me to ignore it and it was good advice. Unless it affects the way he puts weight on the leg or it bothers your cat I'd leave it alone it's just a piece of skin.

For something that minor, full blown anesthetic seems to be overkill.  I'm surprised they can't just freeze it off like a wart.

That's what they do in humans. You can even get skin tag kits from Compound W. I wouldn't try it on a cat, but it works on humans, I've tried it! Perhaps call another vet & ask what their procedure is for that?

Like the other poster stated, if it's not bothering him, why bother? It's just extra skin.

The vet found two on Alice today, the vet wasn't concerned about it.  Hers are on an ear flap which the vet said is an odd location for them.  She is getting a dental done on March 3 and the vet is going to go ahead and take them off since she will be under anesthetic anyway.  They aren't even charging me for taking them off so I know they are no big deal.
