Hello! My girl, Rio, is definitely pregnant but I'm not sure how far along. Her sibling just had a litter of 2 about 6 weeks ago. Rio has been watching her sister nurse the kittens and has started letting them nurse on her. Rio started spotting today. She's in the "homemade maternity ward" that has been cleaned and has fresh bedding for her babies. My question is would the kittens nursing on Rio cause her to start spotting or go into early labor?

Theoretically they could.  So for example, when they have weak contractions and have difficulty to deliver next kitten, a trick is to make them nurse the kitten number one... This makes the contractions stronger.

But if nursing makes the delivery too early, Im not sure.  I dont think so.  The situation is not the most common, but still, if she is healthy I believe it should go OK anyway.

With spotting you mean drops of blood?    you must be watchful with this.   Some red colored discharge is common enough, but  fresh drops of real blood less common.  And of course, not good at all if there is much blood coming out.

So be vigilant.   Measure her temp - you can take it in the armpit of the forearm.  Its one full Celsicusgrade lower there, or three grades Fahrenheit.  Otherwise its fairly accurate.

Good luck!
