Thank you all so much for the tips.  I changed my kittens food to Natures Variety Instinct Limited Ingredient Turkey and he absolutely loves it.

My other babies not so much. :(

Right now they are in a Purina Pro Plan diet.  And I think they are not budging to change.
I am glad he likes it .

i won't feed blue buffalo - anything from the company - to my cats.  when i made the switch from grocery brands (iams) to higher quality food, i sent a lot of emails and made a lot of phone calls to find information i wanted.  the reps i communicated with via email/phone were not forthcoming with information regarding sourcing of ingredients - they would not tell me if anything came from china and if so, what came from china.  i wasn't cool with that.

My experience with Blue Buffalo was different. When I asked them if they sourced any ingredients from China, they e-mailed me back and told me that they do not source any ingredients from China. They also told me where all of their proteins that they use come from.

It's been about a year and a half ago since I spoke to them. IF I am remembering correctly, most of their meat was sourced in the U.S., except for the beef, which came from Australia, and the lamb, which came from New Zealand. I had only asked specifically about the duck, since that's what I was feeding my cats, and they told me that it came from California. I don't remember if I was given any info on the rabbit or not, but I think that is a fairly new thing. The important thing to me was that no ingredients came from China.

when i spoke to them about two years ago, they told me that 'everyone' sources additives/vitamins/minerals from china and wouldn't deny that they did as well.

Well, I am confused then. We only discussed food ingredients though. I never asked about vitamins and minerals.

Unfortunately it's been pretty common for many pet food manufacturers to ignore the vitamin/mineral supplements when stating that no ingredients are from China. Or they hide behind the fact that the broker they buy directly from is US-based and just claim that as their source. Blue Buffalo is hardly alone in doing this, it is true, but it doesn't make it any less deceptive.

It's not impossible to source elsewhere but the vast majority of taurine supplement at least is from China, and most of the other stuff in the supplement package is commonly sourced there as well. If you are looking for complete answers from pet food manufacturers, you have to be very specific in your queries. And you still might not get a straight or correct answer.

If you go to their facebook page they answer questions. I don't think their ingredients come from China. I use to feed my cats nutro until try had a huge recall and all the food my cats are were on the recall list. I feed my cats the wilderness and regular and never had a problem. A lot of cat food has vegetables in it. I guess to each their own but it's the only thing my cats eat.

I had a HORRID experience about a year ago with Blue Buffalo and three of my cats. First my 14 year old female started throwing up, then 3 days later two of the boys. The MINUTE I pulled up the Blue Buffalo and put down something else, they IMMEDIATELY stopped throwing up.

I know feed Nature Variety Limited Rabbit because I have cat (one of the boys that i mentioned above) who has issues I am convinced with started with the Blue Buffalo incident and culminated with Temptation Treats (which are oison IMO).

My kitten has been eating the Blue Buffalo freedom line since I took him off the streets in November.  He LOVES it.    I have a hard time getting him to eat much canned food.  He has only finished wet food twice since I've had him and both times it was Soulstic (sp?) brand.  I picked BB because I've heard good things about it and the line he eats has a high concentration of meat with no by-products.  And his vet told me that it is high quality food.

any suggestions for a cat who eats Blue Buffalo Limited Ingredient Turkey and Potato dry food? I am concerned reading some of these posts. Especially with a brand I have trusted and now to hear potatos in the food could be harmful.

I don't like BB and don't like potato as a filler. I did a lot of research on ingredients, product recalls, online complaints and finally decided on Nature's Variety. If you do the research, I think you may come to the same conclusion of getting away from BB.

I don't like BB either. I don't feed much dry but the kind I keep on hand is Nature's Variety LID Turkey. Here's the ingredients list from their website. My cats like NVI canned. They also eat the NV Prairie Homestyle and the Pride by Instinct canned

Turkey Meal, Peas, Tapioca, Canola Oil (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols and Citric Acid), Turkey, Natural Flavor, Montmorillonite Clay, Coconut Oil, Choline Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Salt, DL-Methionine, Vitamins (Vitamin A Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin Supplement, L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Thiamine Mononitrate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin Supplement, Folic Acid, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement), Minerals (Zinc Proteinate, Iron Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Ethylenediamine Dihydriodide, Sodium Selenite), Taurine, Green Tea Extract, Rosemary Extract

I used to use blue wilderness Canned turkey but stopped due to all that potato in the food and Squirt didn't like it.. I did use to use blue basics but the Fiber levels were messed with and the grain free varieties have fish oil in them.. ( allergy causing) but the Regular Turkey and Potato doesn't..

also anybody know what happened with Purina accusing blue using corn and by-products in their foods.. I don't know what became of that ..

i've been using Blue Wilderness dry food for almost three years. Both of my nearly-seven-year-old cats love it, and are very healthy. I rotate among the Chicken, Duck and Salmon flavors.

I have never had a pushy BB rep at any pet shop... but that sounds annoying. My Belle eats both wet and dry and I chose BB indoor dry to feed her as a supplement to her wet food. She has eaten it for a year, loves it, and has never had any problems with it. I truly think that each cat (just like people) have their own level of pickiness and food sensitivities. Some cats are very sensitive to the grains/starch in the BB dry, some aren't. I don't know about the issues from 2012, since I didn't buy their food back then (my brother had his cat back then but he fed her Nutro). But if your cat becomes ill, has no interest in eating the food, or gets diarrhea from it even though you transitioned properly, then they aren't compatible with it.
Are  you still feeding the BB Wilderness ?  I got a 2 lb bag of the Salmon for my cats to try and they love it . More than any other kibble they have eaten ..

I just looked and chewy was cheaper than Amazon for nutro natural ,I don't do auto ship!
I usually get Nutro Natural from Amazon.  If you use their subscribe and save program you can get 15% off so it is cheaper than Chewy.  Comes to around $24 and change for a case of 24.   I'm finding the problem with Amazon though is that they are often out of stock.

btw, Nutro Natural has some new flavors out.  Most have fish so not something I'll likely buy but my cats love the ones I buy.  They also have some new 2.5 oz tray packaging thing but its way more expensive than the cans.   Totally not worth it, imo.

I have NNC on my S&S from Amazon as well. I actually have about 30 items that I swap in and out depending on what I need. The NNC I have in there is the minced chicken and sliced turkey.Speaking of- I need to go in there and move stuff around for my next delivery.
