Carlo, 10 years of age, a long-term resident of our local shelter, left us today. A victim of neglect, he came to the shelter FIV+, with heart disease and a number of infections that left him toothless and blind in one eye. Just a few weeks ago we were rejoicing because he'd finally found a forever home. Sadly, it wasn't to be, and he spent the last few weeks of his life at the vet's rather than being spoiled rotten by his new caregiver. The FIV won.
Carlo, you were such a patient boy, putting up with Maurice's whining, Lucky's posturing, and Benny's hogging the most comfortable spot on the cat tree without complaint. You were a little angel about taking your many medications. You enjoyed simple pleasures so much - a sunny spot in your room or the catio, being brushed and petted, a pouch of wet food with gravy, a soft blanket. Your purr was so deep and loud that we called it your "rumble", and we all miss hearing it.
Did you know how much we all loved you? I hope so. The shelter became your home and the volunteers your family. You mattered, and you'll live on in our hearts and memories. RIP, sweetie.
