I moved to Texas for work and i am staying in a hotel until i find a place to live here.I have 2 five ( almost 6) month old male cats who are brothers. About a week after I got here (about a month ago) I started noticing pee on towels, clothes and my work papers. I have only caught one of them doing it so I don t know if they both are. I don t know why they are doing this because up until i got here they always used the litter-box or I have not found it? I was wondering if it was because they don t like the litter stuck to their paws because they are not covering it up my more and when they are finished they both wipe their paws off a bunch of times before they get out of the litter-box!!! Why are they doing this and how do I stop them/him from doing it?

It could be stress. Or the beginning of an urinary infection. Find out if it is health related by visiting the vet. If it is behavioral, try using natural calm remedies.

Hi Desid,

The first thing I'd do is take them to a vet for a check-up. Peeing outside the box could be a sign of urinary tract problems, particularly as they seem to be peeing in lots of different places. Get this checked out first as UTI's are very painful and can be fatal if left untreated.

When  you clean up after them put the dirty tissues in their litter box so that their smell is there. Use an enzyme cleaner to clean the places they peed to get rid of the smell. If they can still smell it they'll think that's the place they're supposed to go.

If you're going to be in a strange place for a while I'd recommend a Feliway diffuser to help them calm down and settle in. It could be anxiety about their new home that is upsetting them. But get the vet to check them over first of all, just in case.

Re-pliers,

Thank you all so very much. This is my first pet in my adultl life and I want nothing but the best for my angels. They have been wrapped around our fingers since we got them off of craigslist. It's amazing how they can change my bad mood into good. I wanted to be sure that I was not doing something wrong. I have made a appointment with the vet so we will see what is said there.
