Is tuna jerky safe as an occasional treat?

Hello,

I have some teriyaki-flavored ahi tuna jerky that is all-natural, etc. It is an expensive, "artisanal" product, so the main ingredient is the tuna. Seventh or eighth on the list of ingredients are onion powder and garlic powder. I can't taste or smell either of them, so the amount has to be very small. Would it be safe for my cat? I didn't buy it for him. I actually went to a lot of trouble to keep it from him, but he returned the favor and managed to get to the package today. He wasn't able to open the package or eat any of it, but frankly, it was really expensive, I don't like it, and he seems eager to try it, so if it would be safe as a treat, it would prefer to give it to him than eventually discard it.

Thanks for your advice.

I personally would not give it to my cat. If it is this brand, sugar and salt are number 2 and 3 on the list. I'd be concerned about those ingredients (as well as garlic and onion).
There are 100% freeze dried treats, including Bonito flakes and salmon treats.
I give (too many :) ) freeze dried treats to Ritz, meat based. I avoid fish with her because she has a history of UTIs.

So it's a product made for Human consumption? Then, no, I would not feed it at all to a cat. Keep the packages in a container with a tight fitting lid and in a kitchen cabinet or fridge. Or give the product away to a friend if the package isnt' too damaged from the cat's claws and teeth.

Give your cat pet-specific treats instead. There are jerky-like treas you can buy at the pet store. I just saw some salmon skins at the pet store the other day. Freeze dried meat or fish treats are also good treats.

Thanks to both of you for responding. Kaimana is indeed the brand.

I have pet-specific treats for him, including bonito flakes and freeze-dried meats. The only one he doesn't like is salmon skin. Strange, because he is not at all picky.
