a slight one, a '2".  Has anyone had a cat with a heart murmer  had his or her teeth cleaned?  is it safe?  I have spoken to the vet and she will have him on antibiotics...Obi is 15/16.  He just had his blood worked up and he is in great shape, the vet says.  Still, I worry..Y'all understand, I am sure.

Are you sure it really is a heart murmur?? My dog was "diagnosed" with one years ago with the vet that used to own the practice we still use. After the current vet bought her out, she checked her out at the next yearly visit. No heart murmur. Other than a touch of arthritis and a grouchy attitude
she's going strong at 12. I swear she's turning into an old man. I half expect to come home one day and find her wearing a pair of high waisted leisure slacks that are pulled up to her armpits.

LOL, I like your style, Kat.  Well, my old vet never heard a murmur, but three vets since have, and that included at the School of Veterinary Medicine here.  Its a mild one...I am just nervous about his dental.  I just sent a note to the current vet expressing my anxiety.  I wish they did not have to put a cat out to clean their teeth...

I have a foster kitty with gingivitis that needs to go in for one, too. He's 8. I hate that they have to be put under, too but I kind of understand why. My dog has some tartar but no gingivitis. My vet wants to do a dental on her but I am really reluctant about getting her in there for it because of her age. She is a border collie. I'm afraid that she won't come back out from the general anesthesia. I have been giving her dental chew sticks. She has NO trouble eating so I'll have her checked again at her next annual in May and we'll go from there.

Don't know if this post is too late.   My vet heard a murmur she thought was a 3 when she first examined my cat from a hoarding situation.  Ultrasound proved it to be a 2.   He successful had all his teeth but two extracted.

Obi came through just fine, no extractions.  He was a little "off " for a day or two, and then he returned to his irascible self.
