2 days after returning from the cruise I came down with a cold. Haven't had one in years. Getting better now, but that annoying cough hangs on. I guess with so many people on the ship you're exposed to everyone's germs. Even though there is hand sanitizer everyone you just can't escape it. Feeling better now and finally want to get out of the house tomorrow.

Ugh sorry to hear you got sick, but glad you are feeling better! My sister got really sick on a cruise a couple of years ago, but she was sick during not after.

Here's a tip for chest congestion: use a heating pad! Seriously, put that sucker on your chest as much as possible. It's like having a super-high fever right on the spot that needs the heat to kill the virus / bacteria. Works great for sinus infections, too, put the heat over your forehead, eyes, and nose.

We are all sick here, I'm just getting over it but daughter and husband are still suffering. Last night, I remembered the heating pad trick and OMG it helped so much I couldn't believe it. My lungs get really full of mucous which takes my asthma up several notches (very distressing). I am feeling SO much better today, hope this helps you, too.

My tip for a cold is this. Mix honey and vinegar in equal portions and put in a jar next to your kitchen sink. As soon as you feel the cold starting, go ahead and start taking by the tablespoon. I usually only have to do it for a day and am fine by the next day. It works for me nine times out of ten. Seriously.

Do you use the Bragg's unfiltered apple cider vinegar for that?

I'm coming down with a cold today. I'm just back from buying a heat pad. Laying on the couch now with heat on my head. Thanks Swampwitch.

Poor all of you.
That cough always seems to hang on forever; I know it does with me, too. I hope you're feeling better soon.

One of my friends swears by Vicks Vapor Rub. As soon as he feels a cold coming on, he slathers it all over his neck and chest, throws on an old sweatshirt (he calls it his Cold Sweatshirt because he only wears it when he's slathered in Vicks), and goes to bed for the day. He says that, by the next morning, he's fine.

My mom used to actually eat Vicks Vapor Rub. She thought it was wonderful stuff and says it always helped her, too.

Thanks for the honey and vinegar tip! I will try that the next time I start feeling like I might have a cold.

Kat0121 Kat0121 I just use grocery store apple cider vinegar, usually the store brand. Winchester Winchester Glad to hear you noticed this. Most folks screw up their nose and tell me, "nah, I can't drink that stuff. It makes me gag". In that case I have to think then be sick. It really does work for me.

ACV is really good for a lot of things. I wouldn't drink a glass just to have something to drink because it's not what I would call pleasant tasting but it does work for a lot of things and it's good for you in general. Honey is, too.

Vicks is essentially eucalyptus oil and Vaseline (petroleum jelly)... It is for topical use only, and should never be consumed (eeeew).  I've done the ol' rub and sweatshirt trick, and it does help. The eucalyptus oil helps stimulate the blood flow in the capillaries and veins, much like @SwampWitch 's heating pad trick.  I've also used a few drops of pennyroyal essential oil; it's quite a bit stronger, so a few drops go a long way.  I also use pennyroyal for sore muscles and cramps... topical only, wash hands thoroughly.

Get well soon, everyone.

Another trick with Vicks vapour rub is to rub it into the soles of your feet. I can't remember why? the trouble is that I forget all these helpful things and they are so simple. I am sitting with a heat pad on my chest at this very moment. I'm getting quite attached to my heat pad. :lol3:
