This is a follow-up to my situation at work. http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...ave+a+question

Those of us who are still working in my department have had an increased work load for the last six months. I was talking to one of my co-workers awhile ago, and she said she talked to our supervisor about wanting a raise, and the supervisor didn't see the need for it. The supervisor said we had gotten a 10% raise not long ago, but it has actually been two years since that raise. Also, this supervisor seems very unlikely to recommend that we get a raise in the near future. My question is are we being unreasonable to feel we derserve(sp?) a raise right now?

See if you can go above your supervisor and keep going up if they keep saying the same thing. I once worked for a supervisor that said no to me for 4 years keeping me at $16,000/year and I did 5 jobs. When one of the owners found out that I was leaving because of it I got a 30% raise, they fired my supervisor, let me choose my new supervisor, and gave me an assistant.

Movin' on up!
Sounds as though you're in the same situation, as Bill. HE hasn't had a raise, in 4 years and isn't likely to get one. The only reason that he hasn't bailed, is that he's 58 years old and isn't 100% vested in his 401(K) yet.

Lorie, maybe its time to look around for another, better-paying job. I've only been on my job, since May and have had two raises, with another one due in April.

I know that companies are cutting back but, three years and more duties, without a raise, is ridiculous!

Organize a work to rule or a walk out. Maybe you can investigate forming a work place union. You definately deserve a raise.

I have mixed feelings about it. If it were me I'd want a raise and it sure sounds like you all deserve one. On the other hand... I just want a job! So I feel your lucky to have a job. Even when I was employed we only got about a 4% raise every year. The economy is improving but it has a long way to go!

I'd be careful about a walk out or any kind of demonstration. The economy just isn't that stable and right now, everyone is dispensible. Just my humble opinion.

(If it were up to me though, I'd give ya the raise!)

Lorie, it sound like they're taking the micky big time! It's a difficult situation, as obviously you need to continue to earn. But if the situation really can't be resolved and going over your supervisors head might work, but might also backfire horribly, I would queitly start looking for another job, and just let them get on with it.

Good luck with whatever you decide, it's not an easy choice to have to make!

I wouldn't put up with it, but everyone is right, jobs are scarce and you don't want to leave one without having another already lined up. I think if you're doing the job well and show up when you're supposed to, then you deserve a raise. of course with the added duties, then of course you deserve one since you have obviously been doing yoru job well enough to warrant extra duties!
