My three month old make kitten, Jingles, went from frisky and happy to lethargic suddenly three days ago. I took him to the vet two days ago. He hasn't been eating, had a 104 fever and hasn't pooped in three days. He has also thrown up about 4 times in the last few days. He swallows really hard, too, and just wants to sleep all day. I'm force feeding him some high calorie cat food the vet gave me and he is drinking water on his own. Also giving antibiotics twice a day the vet have me. She mentioned possible upper respiratory infection and worse case scenario FIP?? Any advice? I'm concerned he could have a bowel obstruction or something.
Thanks

The only way you're going to be able to tell for sure if something is obstructing his bowels is to take him back to the vet.  it is definitely not normal that he has not pooped in 3 days. How much food are you managing to feed him and how often do you feed him? With the throwing up how much do you think he's actually kept down? Is he losing weight or holding steady?

Honestly at this point I would take him back to the vet.  The throwing up and not pooping really concern me. It's also possible that he's very dehydrated.

Hopefully others will chime in with advice but I really would probably take him back to the vet at this point.

Thanks. I may need to try another vet. I called her last night and they said to continue feeding and that would promote digestion and a BM....but he throws up almost everything about 45 minutes after I feed him. So I can't see how that's going to work. He is drinking a lot of water and urinating. Definitely losing some weight. I guess I'll take him back in today. :(

It sounds to me like he has a bowel blockage. Has he been playing with strings or ribbons? They can be very harmful if swallowed. Have the vet xray his bowels. Please don't force feed him anything else until you find out. If he's not pooping and throwing up what he does eat, it only makes sense that something is blocked. Get him back to the vet asap and God Bless!

Ok that's what I'll do! So worried about him! I don't think he could have gotten a string but never say never. It sure seems like bad constipation or blockage to me, too. I wish the vet had done that yesterday but I just did what she said. She scared me mentioning the FIP. Thank you!

I agree, it's time to get this checked out before it's past the point of not being to have anything done.

The emergency vet believed strongly that he has FIP. Said there is no definitive test for it but that it's a virus that can mutate in some cats. He was not improving and even had the yellow fluid in his belly she extracted. She recommended not letting him suffer through it because he could start having seizures and pass away anytime. We are so sad and were SO attached to him even though we only got to have him for 6 weeks. He went from healthy and happy to this overnight. Makes me scared to adopt again!
