Primal and Stella & Chewy's. Both cats love them and happily eat them twice a day, though I do recall that it took a bit of time for them to really love them. They initially liked frozen Primal better.

We find freeze-dried very convenient (mix and serve is fast) as well as economical because you just mix what you need... or you can mix up a bunch for several meals. It's also easy to combine flavors so the blends vary from meal to meal. Freeze-dried has worked out very well for us!

. They are not fond of turkey or fish, so it looks like Stella is the only one with chicken

Yes, that might be your best bet. Stella & Chewy's has small packets that are expensive by the ounce but a great way to try the foods without investing in the $20 bag.

The Primal foods that have salmon don't have much (5%, I think) so it may not matter to your cats. They apparently will send samples so it may be worth asking for some.

I recently began trying Primal Turkey and also the chicken & Salman.    My Rainy loves it.  Eats it everytime I put it out.  My Lokhi likes it but there have been times he's walked away.   I think sometimes it depends on how much water I add to it.  He would much prefer that I feed it to him dry.  Other than giving it to him as a treat I don't want to do that

I once tried one of those small packets of the Stella & Chewy when you can actually find it in stores.   I hasn't had Rainy yet but my Lokhi scoffed it up.

I got a couple of samples of Primal Freeze Dried Turkey ..

I re-hydrated   a cube  with water for each cat .

My male cat ate every bit , the female refused it . Although she did eat a dry piece but I do not want to feed it that way  so that one is out .. I can only buy food that they both like ..

I will try Stella & chewy chicken since mine are not into fish or turkey. I can always mix it with stuff they like if they won't eat it straight. They LOVE Purebites treats (I bought big dog bag) they share with dogs.

That's great that one liked it right from the start! If the other cat likes it dry, you could try mixing up some "glop" and then crumbling part of a cube on top. We sometimes do that for our cats when they're not thrilled with whatever we've whipped up for them. One of our cats was slower to get into Primal, too, and now she loves it just as much. Some cats definitely need time to get used to it.

Same here! One of our cats gets highly offended if the food is too wet. Sadly, it took us a while to figure that out.

What is your cats favorite, I was thinking of trying some.
@bonepicker  as @LTS3  has already asked,  I too am interested to know if you are looking for information about complete foods or treats.   The treat Mouse has loved since he was a young kitten is Thrive freeze dried white fish;  however there is a fundamental difference between many of the freeze dried snacks, and the whole foods that LTS3 and others have listed as the whole foods tend to be raw.

If you are mostly looking for information on the complete food then this conversation would be most appropriately placed in the Home Cooked and Raw forum and I will move it accordingly:    http://www.thecatsite.com/t/282314/recommending-a-homemade-diet-hold-your-horses/0_100

Maybe it should be moved, is Stella and Chewy freeze dried chicken considered raw?

@bonepicker   I think that all of the food mentionned so far in this thread, other than perhaps some of the treats, are all raw foods so makes sense if I do relocate the thread.  From looking in to freeze dried foods they do seem to be mostly raw.

Yes, all of the Stella and Chewy's products are raw, either frozen or freeze dried. Even the treats are freeze dried raw but I would consider that more like a regular treat than food.

Thanks for that list!

I like freeze dried food in principle.  Convenient, easy to store, minimal packaging, no need for the preservatives and other crud in canned food.  Unfortunately, you'd think it would be economical due to reduced shipping costs, but unfortunately if you add up the expenses it's flat out scary.  At $25 per 12 oz bag which is supposed to last a week, Stella and Chewy's would cost $100/month to feed one cat.  Primal's freeze dried is about the same.  The Only Natural Pet food is $30 for a bag with ~16 1/2 cup servings, so that would be around $60/month to feed one cat.   That's twice what it costs me to feed my two large-ish (12 lb) cats.

BTW beware of Sojos - it is FULLY HALF carbohydrate!!  And with no added taurine I don't understand how it could possibly be "complete and balanced" for cats.

No shortcuts when it comes to feeding cats, I'm afraid.  All the time I spent researching freeze dried/dehydrated/commercial raw foods in search of the Holy Grail was wasted.  Frustrating, isn't it?  I'm just a bit tired of having my hands in raw meat all the time, but at the end of the day my cats eat well, I've got a system that works, and my total cat food bill is ~$70/month.

@sophie1  you are right with the Sophos caution and right to point out.  This is presumably because their products are designed for dogs rather than cats.  The 'Simply' products in their range must still be for dogs but at least have fewer carbs, but would not be suitable to feed a cat other than as a treat.

Well the dog liked his beef freeze dried S&C. The cats not so much, I had to crumble Purebites on top to get them to eat the S&C chick, chick, chick!

Our cats didn't love Stella & Chewy's at the beginning but now it has to be crumbled on their meals. They also liked the Duck, Duck, Goose best at first.
