Hello,

For today's question please think back to when you were a little kid and tell me,

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I went through lots of imaginary career changes when I was a kid.

First of all I wanted to be a marine biologist so I could swim with dolphins.

Then I wanted to work in a sweet shop, creating new sweets and chocolate.

When I was about 12 I wanted to write children's books, run my own horse riding school and become a famous artist.

Goodness... what did I want to be?  I wasn't too sure.  I remember I wanted to do a jewellery apprenticeship in my friend's dad's shop and also liked the idea of working in health.  I desperately wanted to be a ballet dancer and did it for years, but I'm so the wrong shape..

I wanted to be a vet. One of my Mums friends pretty much told me I was too dumb to be a vet, even as a kid I knew what she was insinuating.
Then I wanted to be a Nanny and travel the world. I did that. Being a Nanny was awesome.
Now I'm a Mummy and thinking about what to be when my kids are big enough for me to work full time.

I wanted to be a pilot. The thought of that terrifies me now. I could never be responsible for flying people around in an airplane.

I wanted to be either a teacher or a lawyer. My dad always said I'd be a great lawyer because I could argue with him over everything and anything. And I was always willing to present a good case for myself whenever I got grounded.

Now? I'd still love to own a B & B. Or a little cookie-type shop, not carrying a lot of cakes and such, just cookies and maybe some cupcakes. Coffees and teas.

I wanted to be either a veterinarian, a journalist, author or actress when I was a kid.

Now I want to be a vet nurse :)

My first choice was vet, but the thought of putting down animals or dealing with people who mistreat animals or don't provide adequate care made me skip out on that.

After that was marine biologist. I LOVE sharks. I actually used to chat with someone who is a marine biologist for Ripley's Aquarium now, but even now, I go there and I look at the tank sizes for the fish they hold and it's a frustrating battle to want to see such amazing creatures, but to be completely put off by their subpar conditions.

Then I just wanted to be an artist. Which is the most vague job in the world with the lowest potential pay and prospect.

...with the cats...
i always wanted to be an artist, starting from my early teens onward. i was discouraged from doing that by my parents, even though in high school i won awards and was chosen to attend a state summer school for the arts program. i really had no interest in any other career.

i ended up doing auditing and accounting work, because i'm very good with numbers and enjoy working with them. but that didn't hold my interest for the long term. so i made a change to a career in a totally unconventional field, which i enjoyed for several years but which also didn't hold my interest for the long term.

Either a scientist working in a lab with beakers filled with colored liquid and clouds of vapor billowing up or a vet. Now I work in a field that kind of combines both (not actual vet stuff but still with animals)

I either wanted to be a doctor or a lunch lady... lol

At the elementary school I went to for kindergarten through the second grade they served some kind of meat with heavy that I just loved. It was beef like and definitely processed! They wouldn't let us younger kids use plastic knives; so they had some lunch aids who would come around to cut everyone's meat. I really wanted to cut my own meat! So that is why i wanted to be alunch lady. I'm pretty sure I gave that idea up by 3rd grade. ;)

I've always wanted to be a cartoonist working for Disney- all that changed when I realized everything was pretty much done on computer. Then I decided to become a graphic designer and that's what I became

What a terrible thing for you mum's 'friend' to say to you. Talk about discouragement.

First I wanted to be a ballet dancer but never had a lesson in my life. Then I wanted to be a nurse and then I just wanted to finish my 12 years at school. I ended up becoming a legal secretary in England and a plain old typist here.
