Hi

I am new to here and have a question. I feed my cats twice a day wet food and the dry food is in a bowl. Yesterday

and today my Hudson has thrown up a couple times and has not been eating very much. Today he had some

diarrhea (Some on the carpet). I did sit with him and he ate a little more. He's not warm, nose is cold, purring,

lovable, body isn't warm. Is there anything I can give him for the diarrhea?

I wouldn't mind taking him to the vet but her use to be a feral cat and pretty much only loves me. It will traumatize him

I know if I take him. I would rather avoid that. Doesn't seem like this is too critical. I mean if it's way worse tomorrow

I would take him. He jumps around and even plays if I dangle things by him.

Any advise of something I can try first before taking him to the vet??

Thank You,

Hudson's worried mommy

Is he straining? Does the vomiting happen about the same time as the diarrhoea? Sometimes what looks like diarrhoea is actually constipation. The effort produces small amounts of a liquidy stool that looks like diarrhoea. Constipation is a vet situation as soon as you can.

If it is in fact diarrhoea, it is important to the check the cat for dehydration, especially if the cat is eating little. With your thumb and forefinger, tent the scruff at the back of the neck. If the skin goes back down right away, your cat is hydrated. If the skin takes even a short time to go back down, then your cat is dehydrated. In which case, until you can get him to a vet, get him to drink as much water as possible. Add water to his wet food until the wet food is soupy.

It is a good sign that Hudson is his usual self, but do watch for further changes.

Thank you. The throwing up was yesterday and then the Diarrhea was today while I was gone to work. I just tried the neck test, It goes down pretty

quickly. I did put Ice in his water and sat there and he drank it for a while. I'll continue to watch, especially tonight and tomorrow morning.

He's sitting here purring away. I wasn't here when the Diarrhea happen but looking through his box it looks like some regular poo and some

diarrhea. Hopefully things will improve. Thank you so much, I'll keep a close watch over my baby.

Just an update. Hudson was a bit better on Saturday, ate a little more. Sunday played outside most the day, ate all his food. Back to his

usually self :) --- I think what ever he had has passed, sure gave me a scare. Thanks for the help!!!! Great site. - Tina
