Hi Ayesha,

Your cat will keep going through heat cycles until she either gets pregnant or is spayed. This is very uncomfortable for her and of course you don't want your cat to keep producing kittens every three months. The best thing to do is take her to a vet and have her spayed. This will stop her heat cycles straight away and also prevent a lot of the cancers that female cats are prone to.

Please try to find a vet who can spay her soon, it's a simple operation.

Having her spayed will make her infertile forever won't it?,

Yes, it will.

But unless she is a pedigree cat and you are a registered breeder it is better to do this. There are so many unwanted, homeless kittens already. It's better not to bring any more kittens into a world where they will have short, sad lives.

If you are able to take care of more cats why not adopt another cat from a shelter or take in a homeless stray? There are lots cats looking for a good home.

Its unfair with the cat to have her stopped from being a mother .. And I don't want that to happen this soon too .. Is there any other option?

If you want her to have kittens one year old isn't too young. But are you sure you can take care of all of her kittens? If you can't find good homes for all of them you will have to keep them and eventually your cat and all of her kittens will need to be spayed or neutered. It will be very expensive.

I don't think it's unfair to the cat. She isn't thinking the same way you are, that she would like to have babies to care for. Cats take care of their kittens instinctively, but if the kittens aren't there they don't think about them.

A cat can produce a litter of six kitten three times a year. All of those kittens can have kittens when they are 6 months old. Really, as responsible pet owners it is our duty to make sure that we don't allow so many kittens to be born as there just aren't enough homes for all of them.

Sadly hundreds of unwanted kittens die every day, so please think about what is best for your cat and for cats in general.

Here are a few articles on why it's better to spay a cat.

http://www.catbehaviorassociates.com/why-you-should-spay-or-neuter-your-cat/

Please understand that I'm not trying to brain wash you, but I've been trying to help unwanted cats for several years now and I see all the sad things that happen to kittens that no body wants.

If you don't want to spay your cat the only way you can stop her from having litter after litter of kittens is to keep her locked indoors. However, she will keep going into heat and the risks to her health increase with every heat cycle. I just wanted you to be aware of that.

Thank you so much for the advice.
I think I will go for the spaying
If you tell us where you live we may be able to help you find a low cost or more affordable clinic to have her spayed at if money is an issue.

I am glad you are going with spaying.  As others have said there are just too many kittens & your cat will have a healthier life.   I had foster who went thru heat about every 8 days until I could get her to the shelter for spay.  They do seem very uncomfortable & want to run out the door.

Good luck with your girl!!
