When do you enter 'cat lady' or in my case 'cat man' territory?

Just got my 3rd and thinking that some years down the line I will end up with more (till now the rate has been one / 2 years). So I was just curious when do people start thinking 'this guy/ girl has a lot of cats' (can totally be in a good way)?

I was considered a "cat lady" when I only had one cat.  Lol.  I've received more than one cat calendars over the years and people always point to cat shirts or something and say "this is you."  Haha.  I guess it has to do with how well-known your love for animals/ cat are.

I agree. I have two and I'm a "cat lady."  I don't think it has anything to do with how many, but how much you love them and let that love shine out to others.

As soon as you don't pick a cat up from their resting spot (i.e.; your bed), even though you can't lay down because they are in your way.

So, ONE cat

I think it's when everybody gives you gifts with cats on them and gift cards with cats. I have been receiving cat themed gifts for a few years now. I love it. IProudly tell people I'm a crazy day lady. I only have three cats.

I got "my" first cat a year ago, but I've been living with a cat for two years. I was a cat lady long before that. In my childhood, I had friends with cats and I adored them, and a bunch of things I wanted to know, they didn't know (or care to know) like about care and husbandry. I swore to be a far better cat owner than they were, no matter if that time came soon or many moons later. Now having my own cat(s) to obsess about, I've crossed the line into "crazy" cat lady territory. In a good way, I'll interpret.

I would also argue I'm a dog and small mammal enthusiast too, and a crazy bird lady. As soon as that animal steps into the picture and the devotion goes into full throttle in real-time practice, I just go nuts, above and beyond.

We have six (used to have eight) kibblekrunchers). I never really considered myself a cat lady because most of my friends also live in multi-cat households. In my mind, it's normal to have more than one cat in the house and I don't consider it strange at all.

But when I was a zoning officer quite a few years ago, I decorated my office with pictures of my furkids and many kitty items. And it got to the point where people would call in to talk to me about zoning stuff and they'd say, "Hey, can I talk to the Zoning Officer? I don't know her name, but she drives a red PT Cruiser and she loves cats!" That's honestly how I was known in town. People would come in to fill out a zoning application or check out the zoning maps for something and they'd see my office and always comment on the cat stuff (and my car. Honestly, I got so many comments about my car, too; most of them good. It was kind of hard to drive around to do inspections and such because people would see the red Cruiser and it was pretty obvious that it was me). And word got around, I guess. The "joys" of living in a small town. (Sometimes I miss doing zoning.)

I previously had 2 cats but now only have 1.  No doubt other people think I'm a crazy cat person and have the potential to have 'too many'.     For me I think more than 6 or 7 starts to get a bit wild as can't imagine how you manage to give them all time and care, but then if you have more than 1 human in your home or the cats are outdoor aswell, and perhaps feral community, I guess the number would be much larger.

I feel that if we have more cats than we can care for properly, then we are wading into crazy territory.

According to my experiences, when you tell people you have 2 cats they don't even blink. But once you have 3, their eyebrows shoot up when you tell them. It doesn't even matter if you explain there are 3 people in your house and each has a cat. There's something about 1 or 2 being "acceptable" while more than that goes into "crazy."

What the heck does 'cat lady' really mean, I don't know.  If cat lovers want to have multiple cats, it's their business and no one else.  As said in the past by some of us, if you can afford to feed them  and keep them in good health and give them lots of love, you should be known as a decent human being who loves animals.

Cat lady, seems derogatory  to me, what does it really mean.  Is cat lady defined in the dictionary, I don't think so. If it was it should say,  Cat Lady:  a person whether male or female who loves and wants to share their home with cats, PERIOD!!!

I have a feeling that being a "cat lady" or "cat man" has more to do with how obsessed you are with cats rather than how many cats you have. People know me as the cat girl - I only have 2 cats, but I love everything to do with cats and I post cat links to my social media all the time. I say you are a "cat lady/man" when cats become one of your main loves and the aura of cats surrounds you at all times :)

I have 3 wonderful cats. I would definitely call myself a cat lady (maybe not crazy cat lady but I'm crazy about my cats...) because I am very passionate about my cats. I don't think it matters how

many cats you have to be considered a cat person. I love my cats dearly and would go to the ends of the Earth for them just like any of you would.

I have had as many as six cats at a time, and loved them all.  Then we got down to three for years--same number, usually different names depending on the circumstances.  Then when Angelina was killed by a neighbor's pit-bull, Nov. 30, 2013, in mid December of that year, we encountered a pair of three-month old kittens at a campground where we went to check on a camper for sale.  The kitties had been socialized and were ready for adoption.  I jumped at taking them both.  It would be too cruel to separate these best friends, and put one in a household with two geriatric cats that barely tolerate each other, and leave the other.

I wouldn't do it, and so now I have four lovely cats.  :)

The camper was a no-go.  But we were impressed that the residents would catch the kittens of feral cats and gentle them so that they would be adopted out.

I think joining TCS is a pretty good indicator of 'cat lady' territory lol
